The sat nav on my MY10 D4 is hopeless; my TomTom is far better; much better routes with TomTom (thr IQ routes are really good); TomTom's HD traffic is so much better than the TMC system, although you do have to pay a monthly subscription for it. I like the idea and convenience of a built-in system but if I actually need a sat nav then I use TomTom.

I have to say that if the 2010MY D4 HDD Premium Navigation CAN be updated to 2012MY spec then I would certainly be interested in doing that - so it's over to the experts! Please?! 59 D4 XS (2.7 TDV6 6 speed Manual) Commercial (UK spec) with extras such as Premium Navigation.

ludomcgurk I agree with weird routes, I tried to go to Telford from Leeds area and first it wanted me to go through Manchester and when I stayed on the M62 it then wanted me to go to Liverpool. When it tried to send me off at every junction of the M6 I stopped at a service station and bought myself a road atlas. How annoying is that On the return trip it wanted to send me "Up North" via the M42 I never had anything like this sort of trouble with the D3. Like APL says if the 2010 system is upgradable, please "Wiggs / BBS /BAS" make it possible then I want to do it!

Hi ludomcgurk,
You may have the "route options" set to not use major roads
Cheers Ken

Any further updates on this thread re upgrading 2010MY to 2012MY SatNav?
Likewise, Wiggs et al...... if you could do it! And if you can, over here somewhere on my island would also be useful! 59 D4 XS (2.7 TDV6 6 speed Manual) Commercial (UK spec) with extras such as Premium Navigation.

I think you might have had the thing set to use alternative routes if traffic congestion or hazards are found on your planned route! Turn this off and it should rectify things.
This happens a lot on the M4 out of Wales - if there is congestion around Cardiff for example it tries to send you via every conceivable place except where you seem to want to go unless you ignore the traffic alerts! 59 D4 XS (2.7 TDV6 6 speed Manual) Commercial (UK spec) with extras such as Premium Navigation.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have a look when I get back to the UK. When I was having the problem I checked the prefrences menu but didn't come accross anything that mentioned Quote:"Alternative routes if congestion or hazards are found on your planned route!"

It will only do that if you have TMC on your system - we have a 2011 XS and that does not! LR Discovery 4 XS pulling an Airstream 532 Caravan also own (since new) a 1996 MGF

There is an option button that says something like "Avoid Traffic Congestion" - switch this off and it should help - and you still get the TMC information showing on your maps. 59 D4 XS (2.7 TDV6 6 speed Manual) Commercial (UK spec) with extras such as Premium Navigation.
