| Very lame rant about SatNav |

Why have they changed the cancel guidance procedure from the 3 to the 4?
I realise there are far bigger issues in the world but when I press CANCEL GUIDANCE, I DO NOT want 3 options, YES, NO or CANCEL!!!
What is the point of the cancel button, you either want to cancel guidance or you don't, YES or NO, 2 options, simples!
If I press cancel once more when I should have pressed yes i'm going to get properly cross!
Thats all, as you were.

It always cracks me up that you get 3 route options after putting in the destination, one of which is "quickest route"....who,in Gods name thinks,no thanks,I'd rather go the really really long way round please ?..... Personally I'm always ready to learn, although I do not always like being taught.

Just to join in with LR Sat Nav bashing, but is it just me or can you not put a house number in when searching by postcode? Very frustrating when it brings you to the road you want at a T junction but then you dont know to turn left or right to find the house.

euangibson wrote:which is "quickest route"....: I find quickest "calculated" route not always the quickest, but sometimes the shortest works as they cant take into account of traffic volumes and thus the route is not the quickest; also it could be people dont want/need speed but keep mileage to lowest amounts.
end of the day the user has "options" even if they didn't think they need them, anyway I end up ignoring tomtom as SWMBO seems to know better than all others and is always telling me which way to go No matter how bad you are,you are not totally useless...you can always be used as a bad example

The Premium Navigation kit on the D4 certainly does have it's uses, but there are certainly some annoying niggles within it at the same time. As a way of working out exactly where you are in unfamiliar territory it is perfect. To locate a street in a town or city which you are not familiar with is also pretty good. General route planning is usually accurate too though it can depend on the area.
What I am not happy with though is the farce involved with trying to update the maps........over here in Ireland that is! I feel that LR could do with making the process more simple and they should seriously think about incorporating some sort of self-install updating process.
The biggest problem with the system is that you can't add in your own lists of POI's, for example getting the complete list of RSPB reserve sites or National Trust properties.... This would be a very useful additional point.
In an ideal world, Land Rover would incorporate the built in Navigation/multi-function screen as they do now, but have some sort of user-installable module which allows customers to install whichever type of navigation system they want, be it TomTom or Garmin or whatever. From that point onwards the units could be updated just like any stand alone unit can be.
Having the screen built in is much better than having to remember to attach yet another device to your Discovery - we already have to attach our phones, etc! 59 D4 XS (2.7 TDV6 6 speed Manual) Commercial (UK spec) with extras such as Premium Navigation.
