| IGN live 12v+ feed in the engine compartment? |
|
I'm trying to pick up a 12V+ feed within the engine compartment that is only live when the ignition key is in. Does anyone know a good point to pick one up? Near the FBH would be perfect.

Check inside the battery box.
There should be few empty plugs(where relays would be) check with a check light which one is live with ign on.

Thanks Flydrive. I'd been wondering about that but didn't want to have a wire poking out of the fuse box lid, and wasn't sure how to secure a wire into the fuse holders. Any ideas on that? I was thinking of using a scotchblock to tap into a wire carrying IGN live 12v+, if I could find one!

Fuse holders and relay's readily accept standard spade connectors, just get the right size, relays are 6.3mm IIRC D3 TDV6 "S", Zambezi Silver, 7 Seats, Dual Climate, Heated F&R Seats & Screen, Fog's, Auto lights & Wipers, SAT NAV, Harmon Kardon, Cruise, Tinted Windows, Side steps, Roof Rails.

If you want to piggyback an existing fuse you can use something like this
Make sure you get the right size. Cheers Ian

Beanie,that's a neat solution
Hairy Dan, will keep that one in mind - looks useful.
Sorry to be fussy but I would like to avoid a wire poking out of the fuse box. Any IGN live 12v wires accessible near the FBH suitable for a tap?
If not then I'll try Beanie's suggestion and use a spade connector plus in-line fuse to tap into the a fuse box socket.
Thanks all!

There is not one near the FBH your best and tidiest way is the fue piggy back that Hairy Dan has posted, I use these all the time, there neat and the wire can be hidden against the existing loom in the engine bay, I always try to plastic or kevlar shield for the wires in the engine bay.

I personnally hate scotchlocks with a passion, as they effectively cut some strands of the wire to make the connection, so inherantely de-rate the cable - but what you are in effect doing is potentially pulling more current.
Piggy back off an existing fuse is ok, as long at the total load is not exceeded, other than that, you need to find a separete switched fuse. Mark.

Do you just run the wire out the lid of the fuse box or drill a hole out the bottom/side? Doesn't seem to be an alternative opening but may have missed it.

What about the Jap market plug in front of the radiator near the horn, does this not have a live with ignition on? Others have used it from memory. MY12 D4 HSE

My MY07 HSE doesn't have that connector unfortunately. After all the advice here I eventually tapped into an ignition-live socket in the engine bay fuse box using an unused relay slot. Thanks guys.
