OK, ordered the above suggested arial and it's arrived. Will fit over the weekend and report back as soon as done.

Not a resounding success 
Initially thought it had made a big difference, i.e. it worked a couple of times  but now we're back to the same annoying this persons phone is switched off" 
Am I buying a new GSM unit ? If so what is a suitable replacement for the no-longer available Dial-2-open unit?
