| Help with identifying wires... |
|
Hi all,
I'm looking (still) into the upgrade of the low spec audio system on my 2011 D4 SE, the one with the blue monochrome screen in the dash. Attached are two photos one of which is a black shielded wire I originally thought was part of the can-bus system however now I believe it to be simply the aerial cable. The second photo is the back of the cd unit where this black wire plugs into. If it is the aerial I have not seen connection like this before.

The last is confirmation on the wires as i haven't yet seen a wiring diagram.
What can be seen in this pic is two plugs, which also plug into the rear of the CD player. The plug on the right is from the AUX plug behind the centre console. On the left, there is what appears to be +v & -v, 4 pairs of signal wires that go to the amp under the drivers seat, two yellow can-bus wires and one blue/wht unknown wire. Could this blue wire be like the power signal wire to a conventional car amp or power aerial?

I would say that the first picture is an aerial cable and the second picture is the back of the radiowith the aerial socket on the bottom right corner. As for the other two large square/oblong plugs these appear t be standard radio wire plugs. MY12 D4 HSE

In truth, I think you're missing some wires for an upgrade. New loom required! Have you considered other options, like a secondary unit?

The blue wire (pin 14 of that connector) is indeed Antenna Power, it is used to power up the AM/FM antenna module. 06 D3 SE / 04 Mini JCW / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Thanks for your replies, it has confirmed what I had thought, except the two yellow can-bus wires it's the same as a basic stereo.
I had thought of adding on but this style of system appears fairly new & there's not much on the market. In all I'm happy with the sound & bluetooth phone, but not happy with a single cd & no iPod integration. If im going to go to the trouble I'd rather do it properly & post my findings so others can see.
I stumbled across a Clarion can-bus reader & found they had one to suit a Ford system, which is what's in the D4. My intention was to replace the original system with a Clarion / Kenwood / Alpine double din touch screen unit. I'm just need to know which Forf system the D4 has & how to get around the volume & system time on the vehicle. There are obviously a lot more issues to look at.. I still don't know what kind of Amp the system is using to work with can-bus.

Martin you wouldn't happen to know what the pin outs are for the plug with 3 wires going into it? The Aux plug?

Thanks Martin, I only assumed as there's provision for extra pins there may have been provision for additional inputs (sat nav or iPod) etc. Maybe someone who has the Logic 7 system could assist if theyve had the cd unit out?

Hi
Im not 100% sure but you may have three extra blanks in this plug two at the top would be for the telephone a neg and positive which is either for the out for the speaker or the microphone I cant remember which
and the third one would be for a mute wire
cheers Mike

Thanks caver I can't thank you enough. I just got back from the car audio shop & there are modules that fit & will work, looks like it'll be Alpine but I'm not 100% yet.
