Will a Cooper LTZ 285/60/R18 fit as a spare?

Just a quick question to put my mind at rest. Will I be able to fit a 285/60 spare wheel under the car (D3)? Can't remember if I saw somewhere that it was a problem?

As an aside, anyone know if 169 GBP can be beaten for these tires?

Cheers!

If you want/need it to fit, then it will fit.
But you may have to lower the pressures somewhat to do so.
Obviously this does mean you need to carry a foot pump or compressor.
If I could think of anything intelligent, poignant or witty, I'd put it here !!!

Hmmm... I guess running a 55 is a bit dodgey with 60s on every other wheel? Anyone have any views on this? What do other people with 60s do for a spare? I will have a compressor in the car so maybe not too much hassle...

Bigcarpchaser used to store his 285/50/20 spare this way.
Personally I just run with a std road tyre spare with my LTZ's as I never plan to use it.
If I do, it would only be whilst the LTZ was being repaired.
Never had a puncture with my LTZ's for the past 3 or 4 years since I've been running them.
[OK, I kow that last statement is now tempting fate Rolling Eyes ]

255/55-19 & 285/60-18

the overall rolling circumfrence difference is about 4.8% so imho i would not run both on the same axle for any period of time Thumbs Up

285/50/20 don't fit under the car even with low pressures, had my spare on a rear wheel carrier.
275/45/20's fit under no problem though but you do have to remove the plastic heat shield. Mine was broken anyway so no bother. Had no issues with tyre melting.
You must be lucky with puncture Ron, I've had 2....bloody screws though. Have also squished and split a sidewall off roading Big Cry
Have suffered from a couple of tyres losing pressure but had that sorted yesterday, turns out to be corrosion on the inside of the alloy wheel and the beading not sitting correctly apparently.
Good tyres though Thumbs Up

The heat shield is not to stop tyres melting, but to stop them aging differe
ntially around the tyre.

Yes it will fit.
I squeeze mine in, almost zero tyre pressure with the the heat shield removed.
Of course the spare hangs down an extra 30mm but with either Rods or LLAMS I don't really find this a problem.
I will be fitting a long range tanks so a spare wheel carrier will eventually be coming too.
In the meantime I'll be putting my spare in a roof basket along with a secondary spare carcase.

Well I just got back from the tyre place (big recommendation for WTA 4x4 in Utrecht). 4 LTZ's 285/60/R18 fitted plus a spare. My vehicle is now the sexiest thing on the road.

Reason for this post is contrary to what everyone else seems to be saying I managed to fit a fully inflated spare under the car. We had to remove the heat shield but that's all. Pic below... as you can see it has no effect on clearance as it is still above the exhaust. Sorry for the crap quality it was dark and I used my phone!

Looking forward to testing them in the snow next week!
