The bottom line is you buy what you can afford... If you can't afford it don't....with a decent warranty you should be covered for most eventualities...
The normal running costs such as tax, fuel, insurance and servicing you shoud be able to budget for
I have had 2 disco 3's and loved them..unfortunately changes in circumstances has led me to having to sell recently.... But as Arnie says... I'll be back ( and own another If it ain't broke... Take it apart anyway, how else you gonna find out how it works
