Just having similar experience, service with "free" mot.Brake pipe failure, told by service bod brake pipe has split caused by corrosion and must have been leaking before.Spoke to my indy who changed discs and pads on front and pads on back week before christmas he said if it was leaking you would get warning on dash and see deposit on drive way.He surgested tell them because the car drove into them in perfect working order and they probably caused the the split.BTW quoted £850 to replace indy quoted £250.Spoke to dealers still awaiting call back and that was four hours ago pretty normal for a main dealer ?Probably creating a story !!

Well Me thinks Land Rover dealers are a shifty bunch!

I have just purchased my first Discovery 3 SE 05 plate. 5 days ago!!! Had to jump start the vehicle on day 3...booked it in for a planned service to do the 3 belts, oils, filters and tests. £905 Plus replace battery quoted (£199 include labour to install 124 with discount of labour chances). Well as expected i was going to get the usual pads/disks £650 speel, it did not stop there. Have been told hard and soft break lines need replacing + £950 front lower bushes +- 600 plus a few others bill was looking at £4800...WTF

Well i have agreed to carry out the 90K services and belts.
as well as brake lines
replace power steering rack (something leaking)
battery
and some turbo pipe
total £2150

Is it standard for lines to be replaced, common occurrence? am i being ripped off? Shocked as i feel like the copper grease is being applied thick.
Def not going to be doing no Overland through Africa with this vehicle. Well no where, where there is no roadside assistance!

you really need to find an indie! I'm sure someone will tell you of a decent one in your area soon.

I sometimes think that dealers are always trying to get the car back to an as new condition. You can do pads and disks yourself, look at Bodsay's brake bible, contains everything a D3 owner must know about brakes

Seems an awful lot for brake pipes, that was discussed on here a few weeks ago, I think around £250 was closer to the mark for most! In fact, just found that thread, have a read here

Any decent indie will do bushes for a lot less than that, it is only a mechanical job, order the whole arms from The Large One, from Landrover Yeovil then get a garage to do them for you.

If you want a dealer SW of London you can't go wrong with Guava in Guildford. Speak to Will there, mention Derek from this forum and (once he stops cursing Whistle ) he'll be able to give honest advice. These are expensive cars to maintain and you may be playing catch up for the last owner. If things aren't kept on top of bills of a few grand are common. Things may still need done but Guava's rates are much cheaper than stealers in the smoke.
