The brake pad wear warning light will also illuminate on a short circuit, make sure the front (and rear) wires are properly located in the pads
(I had a rear one come away from teh pad and was touching the chassis giving a false warning) Never get mad - get even !!
previous vehicles:
04 D2 TD5 - (clocked 189k from new)
52 X-Trail 2.2 SVE
various euro boxes !

We just got home and I checked the dash, it clearly states a warning for front pads, at what % should this light up, are they now ready for changing (70%) or could some fiddling at the service have caused a short?
I have already bought a set of front discs & pads so prepared for any eventuality
Thanks

if its flickering then its either a wiring fault or the sensor has worn through and will need replacing along with pads. I've got a sensor wire but I'm not sure if its front or rear i'd have to check. Club Forum Criminal !!!

It was flickering, then stayed on for a bit, then off, then flickered again, then on for a while. now off, so don't know exactly what it is up to but definately stated that it was the pads on the dash info, maybe netter to just change pads and sensors, if you have a spare front sensor happy to buy it off you

Do you now at what depth / % they are activated, just that 70% worn doesn't seem to match the light coming on, but they did note it on the service documents, and if 70% was imminent for activating it why would they not have offered to change them, they said nothing, just notified me when I went to pay?

i would think that by the time they wear the sensor they'd be at least 90% but not sure of the exact figures. If you really are down to 75% then i'd be looking at changing them anyway. Club Forum Criminal !!!

Thanks I will do, just that when at the main dealer for a service a few weeks ago i would have preferred to have had them done then to save going back, never mind I will take a look at Bodsy's brake bible

My rear pads scored the discs about 40 miles before the light came on.
Cheaper to replace pads, than relying on the warning light!

Hmm, my thoughts exactly, so why did a main dealer not suggest changing them 150 miles ago, all I got was the 70% note on the front pads when I paid No mention of backs, better get them checked as well, but naughty when a main dealer has serviced it of that is the case IMHO.

Just measured my new ones and they are 12mm, so I guess 70% of 12mm is 3.6mm, OK the guy was .06mm out but FFS why not tell me the light would come on in a couple of hundred miles I would have just had them done there and then? very unusual for dealers not to get work where they can, but since the brake offer came up I probably saved some money, but now have to around getting them changed, and a sensor that now outdoes any saving on the discs
Can the sensor be saved or is it dead after lighting up?
Thanks Bodsy
