just make sure they know about it, otherwise they could just drag it on.... (seen that before).
Although TBH, they should be able to connect jump leads and release it normally. How To ? - Change your Brake Disks Pads Shoes Sensors August 2011 NEW V1.6a

Thanks for all the replys. I'll try a charge first and see if she starts and runs smooth with the alterantor unplugged. If so I'll change both. If not I'll get it taken in.
I'lll post back with the answer either way.

Duckworths are a good bunch but if the car should need more serious work the Famous Four in Louth (closer to Mablethorpe) gets my vote for both knowledge and price!
Hopefully this a problem that will be sorted with a set of jump leads followed by a good charge on a Ctek or similar.

Having the same problem right now. Battery light came on then everything faded and car died. AA replaced two batteries I have travelled about six miles got off the main road. Now sat in sainsburys carpark waiting for a tow truck. Smell of burning from under he bonnet and charging system only kicking 10 volts according to AA guy.

Can't get back to the car until Friday. Will call RAC first thing and hopefully get this sorted.
I'll make sure they check alternator.
Sorry to hear about the others ( but at least it's not just me)
I'll post back with results.

OK here's an update. RAC turned up after 3 hours and had a quick look at the battry. Said it was down to 7 volts so probally knacked.
Connected his van vis jump leads, would not start. Connected booster pack as well, finaly got it started.
As soon as he removed the jump leads it died (hmm thats not good he said) Might be some sort of fault with the alternator as well, so he pulled the fuse out of the fuse box by the battery. Got it started and this time it held. Even though the battery light and airbag lights were now on.
He told me not to trn it off but to drive to Famous Four in Louth (20 miles) and they would sort it, I did ask what happens if it stalls, and was told 'it won't do that'. He promptly left. Needless to say I tried to drive it and got about 100 yards before every light and warning sound kicked in. This alowed me to travel a top speed of 15 mph and would not go in anything but first (tried to stall). Crawlled about 400 yard up the road and managed to get onto the forecourt of a local gaage, where ti is now being looked at by them.
I will update when I find out more.
Oh yes I will be leaving the RAC if that is thier policy to just abandon customers.

Nightmare!
Have you given David at Famous Four a call about your plight?

Sorry about the delay on getting back ... manic at work.
Anyway, the local garage fitted a new Bosh battery and cleared all the fault codes that had arisen due to the clown removing the alternator fuse and all seems to be back to normal
The whole cost came to £142 which I guess was not too bad.
I had been talking to Famous Four and they had a battery on standby .... I just could not get the car to them being 20 miles away. I will be using them in the futre for all my 4x4 needs.

A new development ... the car now randomly cuts out totally as you drive along, no warning, nothing, then just sits there with battery/oil light on. Starts and off you go again. The girlfriend now refusese to use it (and Ii dont' blame her). Looks like it's back to the garage
I am begining to regret buying this car
@curley No as I tried to go along, but that was because the battery was very low and th ealterato fuse had been pulled.
