Correct!! All Swiss Discos have them, and most Euro models too, since 2008 I think. Total pain. They are poorly designed on the D3 - placed where the temperature never gets high enough to burn off the deposits during normal driving. The D4 has the DPF in a different, toastier spot apparently which hopefully means less problems.
Disco went off to dealer on back of a truck this morning. Had to tow it up out of my subterranean lair because it didn't have enough power to get up the gentle slope in wimp mode.
They will try force regenerating/cleaning the filter - or replace it under warranty if it's . I performed an invoice-limitation call yesterday evening to ensure that they knew that I knew what the problem was and they didn't try and replace half the car on spec.
This is the first major problem I've had, so relatively speaking I'm not too upset. Will post later! Thanks all.

Replacing it with straight pipe is not a option? Nicely hidden by gearbox plastic cover ! A few mods... and keeping it all running...Faultmate MSV2

They say to add that into the fuel tank...the DPF is for filtering soot from the exhaust gases.
I'm no engineer, but I'm not sure how a fuel additive can actually clean the filter if it's chock-full of soot.
Maybe it's a solvent of some kind that survives combustion and loosens up the trapped particles in the filter?
Have you used it personally? Curious.

They have a pretty mean anti-pollution test in Switzerland - however much I'd like to lever the thing out, they'd probably detect it and fail the car.

My Ex MY2006 D3 (Diesel) was equipedd with a catalytic converter
Quote:For diesel engines
For compression-ignition (i.e., diesel engines), the most-commonly-used catalytic converter is the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC). This catalyst uses O2 (oxygen) in the exhaust gas stream to convert CO (carbon monoxide) to CO2 (carbon dioxide) and HC (hydrocarbons) to H2O (water) and CO2. These converters often operate at 90 percent efficiency, virtually eliminating diesel odor and helping to reduce visible particulates (soot). These catalyst are not active for NOx reduction because any reductant present would react first with the high concentration of O2 in diesel exhaust gas.

It may have been called a cat , but is infact a dpf, as cats are constructed using materials that if exposed to diesel fumes they are rendered u/s, that is why when you fill a petrol car with diesel you change the cat if you have run the engine on said fuel.
That stuff you stick in yer tank dont work, A pal of mine has a c5 hid dpf light is on took it too his indie he said try this( to clean it) it didnt and now i have the job of changing it, as im free and the bits are £250 as opposed to £500 at the indie.
You can take em off and clean em directly,

I had a chat some time ago with the local service manager who said when he worked a Jag, they would often have a "Ladies" car on the ramps all day running , presumably, on some load/revs, to get the DPF hot enough to regen. Mark.

Hope they have some kind of machine to force the regen for my Disco. If they leave it going all day it will cost more than a replacement DPF in fuel and might explode....

I've never used the DPF cleaner, it was just a suggestion to a new one.
Another alternative is to remove the DPF and map it out of the ECU for about £600.
If it was my own car I would replace with new “I know what everybody is saying… they always say it… I’ll have a second cockpit put on the next Bluebird and we’ll see how many of the bastards want to come out for a ride.” - Donald Campbell

I'd like it replaced as well...but I'm assuming that if it isn't totally hosed then it won't be covered under warranty and therefore I would have to pay for it myself.
I'm hoping it's knackered and I get a new one.

Well. The dealer says faulty EGR valves. The diagnostic code I saw on LRA's machine was definitely a DPF blockage. Although I don't suppose the two things are mutually exclusive...
Picking the machine up tomorrow...
