Well went to Halfords and bought the Bosch battery. She started but alas the battery light is illuminated on the dash. Alternator? Drove home about 1 mile and parked up.
Any ideas on cost?

I had to do mine last summer.
It's an hours work to do yourself, and the only special(ish) tool required is a Viscous fan spanner which is @£10 from halfords etc if you've not got one already - Remember the left hand thread .
The Alternator itself is @£200 exchange from a main dealer.
You get two weeks to take your old unit back, so you can buy the unit in advance and take the old one to the dealer when you've finished.
Not a difficult job at all, but it would be useful to have a second elbow half way down your forearm that bends at 90deg to the one you already have
