Major surgery - not sure whether he's going to pull thru
Well with just over 471,000 miles the decision was taken to put the beast out of its misery
AND PUT A NEW ENGINE IN HIM
The options leading to this decision might well be different to you guys who use em for SDP but for us the choices were:
A) Purchase another D3 for 11-12k only to find we needed to spend money preparing it for the road including the fitting of a tachograph only to find in the short or medium term we're replacing the same running gear we've changed over the past 12 months and also getting rid of the old one knowing we've spent so much money getting him up to scratch
B) Cracking open the existing engine on our D3 to change the fuel valve in cylinder 3 (which is our problem) at 12 hours labour plus having to changed the turbo at another 9 hours whereas complete engine removal/replacement is around 22hours allowing for a bit of wiggle room, then finding a month later something else goes wrong inside the engine or we find other issues
C) Trying to find a second hand unit (if poss) that will be suitable for our EURO 2 with only a 30- 90 day warranty on the unit itself
D) Replace our existing engine with a new OEM RECON unit that then has an unlimited 12 month parts/labour warranty knowing full well that 90% of the remaining vehicle has already been renewed
In order that I can get back out on the road and earn a living (so far lost income is around £5k), we needed the quickest route back
Why remove the tail lights to take the engine out...?____

no - fuel regulator valve inside cylinder 3, would mean we'd have the take the cylinder head of the RH bank. On diagnostics the fuel trim on cylinder 3 is at max, have changed injector and still at max, done electrical resistance testing on the engine loom, all fine, changed the ecm, runs a bit better - we know from our exhaustive testing that cylinder three regulator

Good luck with Westover. I know you've said they've looked after you in the past. But I've found them to be the very worst of a bunch of bad dealers I've been to. I wouldn't let them near my car now after so many ups over the past 2 years.
I'll be interested to see how it turns out. Good luck.PAGODA
