| fitting door mirror glass - help! |
|
Anyone have any experience/advice when replacing the door mirror glass?
Do's or don'ts etc.
Thanks. Some say the glass is half full. Others that it is half empty. I say 'Are you drinking that?"

The glass is a sod to fit, it clips into the housing using a round snap ring that is attached to the back of the glass. The idea is to engage the top half of the ring then push the bottom into place.
Here is the important bit, - DON'T PUSH THE EDGES OF THE GLASS!!! it will break. Only press the centre of the glass inside area covered by the round snap ring on the back.
If you want my advice, ask your friendly dealer to do it for you, then when he breaks it he will have to get you another one! Club 18 - 30 (I wish !!)

Fitted loads of these and still broken a couple,as stated locate the top over the 2 pegs and then push firmly at the bottom to engage the rather flimsy sprung loaded/tapered clip-you will hear a reassuring click if successfull....
or a more louder cracking sound if not !

Get the dealer to do it dude, takes them seconds, took me 20 minutes and a cut my finger !!!!!!
Ended up paying for 2 mirrors so its worth being bothered to go down the road and ask nicely,

Cheers guys.
I'll let have a look at the new glass and then decide. Some say the glass is half full. Others that it is half empty. I say 'Are you drinking that?"

Just a quick tip for anyone doing this - I used a small book to spread the weight when pressing the glass in. Worked a treat! 1997 Special Vehicles 300Tdi Commercial *Sold*

A biker came past my passenger side and swiped the mirror with his hand (apparently 80mph wasn't fast enough for him) and knocked it loose, it was handing by a slender thread - I did manage to pop it back into place at the next exit. 2006 LR3 SE-7 Zermatt Silver
