DIY Trailer wiring questions

Hey guys,

since the original trailer wiring harness would set me back a cool $380 USD over here, I'd like to wire that stuff myself.

Using Wiggs' wiring diagram (here) will there be any issues with me just buying two plugs and extending the cables in the left rear panel to the trailer hitch? I would just change all the plugs over to the plugs I buy myself. (like those small plastic plugs used inside computers)

Which cable does the disco use to recognize when a trailer is attached?

Thanks a lot.

Nothing wrong in making your own loom. Be sure to use the correct grade of wiring and that it is adequately sheather and that any exposed plugs are waterproof.

That diagram looks like a UK D3 and your profile says D4 in HK?

Yes, D4. I didn't notice that the diagram is a D3.
Is there a diagram for a D4 somewhere around?

I'll get you one - are you LH or RH drive and is it for a 13 pin European or a North American style tow socket?
