Last time I did a transfer (My 06) was by putting the cherished number on retention, then took the car to the stealer to trade in. I had the new V5 (old car original number) in a week to go to the dealer and the retention doc for transfering the number in a couple of weeks. That way meant no waiting for the transfer, had the new car on a "normal" number for a short while but got dealer to make up a set of plates with cherished number as well foc. Took the retention doc to the Cardiff VRO when the new car's V5 arrived & transferred the number on to it that day.

Quickest way is to have the new registration number documentation in your hand and take it with you to the nearest DVLA office. Remember to tell your insurance company of the change. New tax disc provided on the spot and plates can be changed in the car park.

Just did the same for CarlS 110. We popped into the DVLA local office in Worcester. The chap we dealt with even asked us if we wanted plates making In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

many thanks chaps. i am glad i am not the only one having issues with this. i remember when you could just do this over the counter in a morning and the dealer done it for you.
now it is between 7 and 10 working days and the stealer wants £70 plus vat for doing it
you spend this kind of money so you would expect them to go that little bit further for the customer

Bob, you are in Troon (lovely town) the Glasgow DVLA office is now VERY good and will do it while you wait....they have a queuing system, ie take a ticket and wait but there are helper chappys who ensure all your forms are correct before you get called so it is a rare example of an efficient system.....so different to trying to contact swansea.
ps....coming on the scottish meet???.....15th April 2007 HSE Java Black.....sold

The DVLA in Wimbledon is where I did mine. Took about 1 hour - changed the plates in the car park and got stopped on the A3 going home by the police who had no record of my new number on their system. Easily explained but also reassuring! Loving the power of the TDV8!
