Yeah, don't start the stupidity when you get to c1 and c and towing.

You can have a b+e and tow say 7t but on a full c you can't tow more than 750kg. So as an example drop the motorhome on a trailer and tow it behind the disco or defender switch the set up and it's a no as it needs c1 or c +e

I did read there is talk of the b 3500kg being increased...believe it when I see it! Apparently pressure is from caravan and motorhome manufacturers

Of and speed limits are equally funny as in Europe 3500kg is the speed change, in the uk 3050 unladen weight is the defining national speed weight.

It's involved (not complicated) but no common sense was applied and someone clearly didn't think it all through

Scotland

Can anyone explain the logic that allows towing a 750kg or less trailer without passing a test but require a test for heavier trailers?

Reversing a small trailer tucked up behind you is a lot more difficult that reversing a big one you can actually see!

Braking hard, especially on a bend, with a small trailer with no brakes on it can lead to the cart in front of the horse.

So my simple logic makes me think that ANY trailer towing should be subject to a test or maybe not but splitting out <750kg does not make sense to me.

As others have said I'm 70 odd now so can tow big or small as I have done for 50 years or so!

It is all as clear as mud.... and it all comes out of trying to align with Europe and have found the confusion is epic.

If you only have B on your licence invest the time and money to pass the test and get E before they shift the bar again Thumbs Up

When I did mine he said it was just to blow out the bad habits. Towing and reversing were fine.

Its easy to make silly mistakes on the tow test though - its also a higher standard (supposedly HGV standard) which i know throws a lot of people.

Eitherway, do it by the numbers and you should be ok

From what ive seen on youtube its the basics plus things like not blocking exits or turns with the car and trailer. A bit of learning now and then wont do me any harm.

if you already have the entitlement because you passed your test before 1997, then do the test and fail.... do you loose the entitlement ?

You deserve to loose it for being stupid!

Unsure but you could just go for trailer lessons and not take the test. Thumbs Up
