Paul, I've had four D4's with the tpms system, sometimes you'll get a reading sometimes you don't.

You're supposed to leave it switched off for a certain period of time before it will allow you a reading. I check after it's been stood overnight and I reckon I get a reading approx. 60% of the time. Very random, but all four D4's have been the same. Rubbish!

Not wishing to offend, but on mine I have to check the pressures before starting the engine, like checking the oil, I choose the check pressure option in the service menu, this will give me the actual pressures and what the actual pressures are.

Only issue with the settings I seem to have is the Light Load and Heavy Load setting, no matter how many times I change it to Heavy Load, next day on start up the setting has defaulted back to Light Load.

No offence taken! I try this and it shows 0psi so the warning presumably won’t work. Tom this last part is my concern rather than the actual reading.

So yours isn’t showing the actual pressure either? Or have I dropped a clanger? That is how mine looks, I took the 0 above the pressure number to mean that was what the tyre was reading?

It is supposed to register the last pressure recorded but it doesn't always, I sometimes get the zero which you can see. I have to say the majority of the time it shows. I'll see if I can get a photo tomorrow showing the readings.

My off-road wheels were on my MY2015 with TPMS and when I fitted them to my MY2016 Landmark the sensors were picked up after drive to the end of the street and back.

This is a photo of one of my valves

I have a set of AA’s on my winters, MY16 Landmark, they don’t work.

Took one of the originals in and had the bead broken and find that I have AB’s fitted.

I had an interesting chat about TPMS valves today. I was driving so couldn't take notes, but I'll post again tomorrow when I'm clearer on the subject.

Is there any way to get the display of TPMS readings up if the car doesn't do it?

My MY14 doesn't have the option in service menu - but would be useful to be able to view it if it could be coded.

You should have it on a 2014, thought it was standard fit on all cars from 2014 Question

On the MY2014 cars they have a different system to the MY2015, on the earlier cars it doesn't show you the actual pressures it just warns you that you have a problem.

With regards to Mattt's post, I suppose it's possible but I would imagine it's very difficult to do, it wont be the case of just plugging in an IID tool and enabling it I would guess you would need to fit the receivers to record the individual pressures also and goodness knows what else.

UPDATE:

I had another telephone conversation today. The issue seems to be with the newer vehicles that display pressure readings. I think this is on MY16 models which in reality are some but not all 2015 models and onward. Prior to this, the TPMS system simply warned of low or falling pressure.

The newer system uses valves that start with the code FW93 (see above photos) and end in either AA or AB. In theory both should work- although I believe a combination of the two may not. This would confirm the confusion over dealers saying the valves are the correct type even though they're not in some individual cases working.

Whilst I can't confirm this, it seems likely that one or more faulty valves will result in failure of the whole system.

The valves are made by Continental. What I didn't know is that when they leave the Continental factory they are in sleep mode. This prolongs battery life. Once fitted they need activating. This occurs at the same time that the wheels and tyres are built up. Dealers should also activate new valves before selling them to customers.

I also found out that a large number of boxes of these valves have gone missing. This could explain why some people are having issues with valves purchased on the internet, as they'll not have been activated.

It seems that in typical LR fashion, the whole TPMS system is over complex and occasionally inexplicably fickle. As such nobody really seems to have a grip on it, which again explains the confusing and often contrary advise from main dealers.

In summary, I'd advise that you first check an existing (working) valve for the code. They should all be FW93 and end in AA or AB on the same line. Then ensure you buy the same code number and that they are active.

From later in 2016 onward a new valve was introduced that (in theory) will work on all TPMS enabled LR vehicles this is coded GX63 instead of FW93. I don't think any D4's had these, but the very last of the line might have done. However, if you have a LR vehicle with GX63 valves, it will only work with GX63's and not an earlier valve.

Hope that helps and doesn't add to the confusion Smile
