Transfer box repair

Hi

First post, so forgive me if I go the wrong way about it! Laughing

My D3 is a 2005 model with over 170k on the clock. The car has been a dream for years but now a nightmare. I've got transmission issues that drop the suspension down and range/terrain settings do not function. Tried new brakelight switch, battery, another ECU, motor & solenoid on the TB... some worked for a short while.

I've removed the TB and fitted a s/h unit off ebay. Suspension immediately lifts and functions are back. Drive off the ramp but as soon as you move the steering wheel it's a real drag/clonk from a front wheel!

Have removed the 2nd TB and opened both of them up. Original is perfect but ebay special has suspect clutch plates for the diff lock.

Does anyone have any suggestions not involving matches. I can't get tech info anywhere as no one seems to rebuild these newer types, only the previous Borg Warner version.

Any help appreciated!

Hi,
Apologies, I've been away on holiday.
Yes, I've had 2 different Land Rover specialists do that. It lasts for a few hours then back to faults again.
Replaced the actuator motor and solenoid too, still no good.
At the end of my tether!

so i had this issue too!

when you turn slightly in either direction you get a really bacd knock/clunk through your whole transmission. i am now on my 3rd transfer box and i reckon all along the issue that casused in the first place was a faulty TCCM - i changed this and then put in my third transfer case and it has solved it since.

I would say if you are driving around with the noise you will be destroying your clutchpack so worth getting it checked or changing the TCCM and then having it properly calibrated.
