Thanks for the clarification and reassurance. I expect the remaining 0.2L went on the workshop floor Wink

IIRC it's 1.5 litres to fill - so they've managed to spill 0.5 litres of expensive oil - or kept it for use on the next D3.... Whistle

Is this a standard service schedule item? Mine will be around that mileage at next service.

Just done this on mine for the second time in its life, (1st done by dealer at 5 yrs old and 36k, now 10.5 yrs old and nearly 72k ), capacity is supposed to be 1.5 litres up to the bottom of filler plug hole with vehicle level....TBH I struggled to get quite that much in, before it p Censored d out. Plug sealing washers are p/no IYF500030 x2 and torque for drain and filler plugs is 22Nm. Thumbs Up

Ive been told that after an transfer box oil change, you have to have it plugged in to a computer and reset!?
Any one know if that is the case?

No, that is not the case, unless, like mine, when this job was done first time by a dealer, the transfer case clutches needed re calibrating afterwards. Not sure if this was just a coincidence, but it has happened to a small number of people AFAIK. When I did this job myself, a few months ago, this did not re occur. Thumbs Up

When taking fairly tight turns, there were banging noises from underneath, as the front or rear wheels were skipping ( transmission 'wind up'). Shocked Laughing

You might be thinking of gearbox.

In any case you don't need a diagnostic tool to calibrate the transfer case, although it does make it easier.

How can you calibrate it without a diagnostic tool? And what level of diagnostic tool do you need? Ive recently purchased a Foxwell 510 nt which so far seems to be pretty good but im not sure if can do this level of resetting !

Capacity Issue

Just changed my T box oil and only got close to 1 liter in it. What gives? Do I need to fill it running or go thru the gears as you do the Gear box (Auto Transmission)?

Odd.

No nothing special.
i got about 1.4 in

Maybe you don’t have it jacked up correctly to help the fluid level

Level above ground

Well I placed it on 4 car ramps. Didn't check that all the ramps were the same height, and It is on a slight incline/decline of the driveway. in picture the slant is not as bad, I think I had the camera leaned.

Can I take a level and put it on the frame underneath and check level that way. Certainly dont want to under fill.
