Driving today with the family in th car, I moved the auto box over into sports mode whilst in slow traffic to beetre us the engines torque, all was well for about 300yrds then I got a system BONG, and the warning message on the central dash LCD screen stating there was a transmission fault and the symbol of the manual.
I carried on in drive normal auto and all was well, but could not get sports or command shift modes, so I checked the handbook....
I cannnot see any message simular in the index or anyhwere in the transmissinon and gearbox pages.
Having parked up for and hour or so, when getting back inthe message has gone.
I didn't retry the command and sports mode on the way home incase i had a problem, but will do later on home turf.

Same issue I saw with mine when I first got it, and since being on this forum quite a few others.
My issue went away after I'd done a few long runs and given the battery a good charge. If I remember correctly this is more then likely linked to low/lower voltage on the battery. If you can give it a good charge or if it's an older one you could try a new one (search on the forum for batteries as there is an increased capacity one recommended now).
Hope this helps...

It could easily be wear in the gear linkage. When mine wore out I could get normal drive by pulling the shift lever back firmly but sport and command shift modes were unavailable. The Transmission Fault message appeared if it slipped out of drive at anything above tickover.
I found that the linkage deteriorated very quickly and after a few journeys I could only drive the car by tying the shift lever back with a rubber shock cord.
