France 2008 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Auto Buckingham BlueDiscovery 3

This is the first Diesel big Landy I have owned. My TD4 had none of the terminal engine failures that the TDV6 has whether its a Disco3 or 4

Apart from those I have always had Petrol
3.9 V8 Classic
3.5, V8 Disco 1
4.6, P38
4.4 V8 Vogue

How does the Disco 3 petrol compare reliability wise against the TDV6 ??

@rowlejohn.

As said been there... i made a topic of the process of changing mine..(engine)

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic186164...t=Jag+tdv6

On page 4, i made some pictures of mainbearing shells on 2 different engines... with different mileage and wear therefore.....
My opinion in the next sentences is only based on 2 engines, but also a lot of “failure topics” here..

The milieage on “your” mentioned engines is maybe at some risk regarding main bearings...
Since the fitting relies on tension and that tension disappears around these miles, that is why they spin a lot after 100k (we can debate if it is due to oilpump wear, but it IS there)
Or better...... they may come in the dangerzone soon, but you can avoid that risk very easy now...

Bottomline: Change the mainbearings on this new to you engine now... and have a lot of miles of your “new” engine in the future..
Thumbs Up
 Best regards
Harold

On a different tack....Any suggestions on jobs that could be done when the body is off?
Bear in mind I will not be allowed access to do any work on it.
For starters, front to back brake line replacement, ARB bush & bolt replacement, EPB brake cable clip & bolt replacement (rusted in).

Obviously the garage will charge for the work so I have to be realistic with the additional labour costs as I can't give them a blank cheque , as much as I would like to !!

Mod's, you may wish to start a new thread if you consider this off topic

UPDATE
Called the garage this morning and they plan to sort the car out starting Monday off next week.
There is every chance that we could be back in France when it's done.
This means that I have to come back to the UK to pick it up and one plan I have is to travel overland by train from Poitiers in France to Dieppe where I get the ferry as foot passenger to Newhaven. Get the Discovery collected from the garage in North wales by a recovery type transporter who will take it to Newhaven ferry port where I will meet them and drive the car onto the ferry and back home to France.

Do any of you Guys know any transport companies who could undertake the the trip from North Wales down to Newhaven, bearing in mind that the smaller breakdown/recovery trucks tend to be for average size cars and not the weight of the Disco 3

Thanks fellas Thumbs Up

"Trailered movements" on here for a start - to be fair I'd pick it up from Dieppe if you're doing that
05 D3 V8 HSE, LR Passion tree bars, wildbear compressor guard, LRP switch panel, ARB rear locker + compressor, Trigger 6 shooter electrical system
12 RRS SDV6 HSE (Hers) - Gone and replaced with an I Pace - I can tell you now EV is not the future yet

UPDATE
Well, at last the Disco is on the two poster and ready for splitting the body and chassis for major surgery and other jobs. Estimated to take around 10 days including them using the car for a couple of days and a new MOT.
Transportation wise, due to the current Covid rules (Isolation and 2 tests) it has been difficult to organise a trailered move from North Wales to France,
I have arranged however a professional company that travel to France, Spain & Portugal weekly to collect and deliver the Disco, when done, "door to door". Not cheap but come highly recommended.
At the moment, it's just a waiting game !! Whistle Whistle
