Transmission Whine
I've had my D3 nearly a year now, by far the best Land Rover I've ever owned.
It's a 2005 with 80k on the clock. It's still covered under dealer warranty and over the past 2k miles I've noticed a transmission whine that is getting louder, (even the wife commented to me she's hearing funny noises )
There are no warning lights and it's louder under natural engine braking.
I will try running in low range box this morning to get rid of the wind noise at higher speeds, but my questions really are;
What's causing it?
Should I be concerned?
Is it going to get worse?
What will the dealer realistically do?
What can i do?
Thanks

Forgive my ignorance, but would the transfer box still whine when in neutral?
It sounds like a small jet engine winding down! This Game of Ghosts

Have same, (diagnosed by TFC ), does it in neutral but would expect that as wheels would be then driving the system.

Transfer Box
Happened to mine many moons ago.
It started off as just a light sound that I thought it was just me listening for something that wasn't there.
Over time, whining got so bad I couldn't drive it due to excessive noise.
It was off the road until LR 'line pinched' a replacement.I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

My SE had a whine that i noticed about 6 months after the warranty ran out. It was evident when you put your foot on the gas. If you backed off and coasted it stopped. I thought it was the transmission however the dealer said it was the front diff. THey contacted LR and they agreed to replace the diff. I had to pay for the installation however which was still $600.

Well, it turned out to be a front wheel bearing.

But that's a rumble, not a whine
Did you not notice it get louder/quieter when cornering ?I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

I know the wheel bearing should rumble, but this really is a whine.
However, until today it didn't make any noticeable difference on corners.
It's definately a wheel bearing, and I'm off to get my ears syringed This Game of Ghosts
