Travelling and camping N Spain

Any tips for getting slightly off grid in N Spain? Heading down on the ferry to Santander in a couple of days and want to travel along the coast heading to N Portugal via Picos de Europa. Just bought our Discovery 3 and it’s fully serviced with roof top tent and fridge. Decided to try Spain before a bigger trip to Morocco early next year. Makes a change from driving a Toyota in Southern Africa which we have done a lot of. Any tips appreciated! Especially of some good tracks and wild camp spots. Cheers.

Try this thread. Also additional searches on the forum will bring up lots of info.

One recommendation is to get a road book or two from Vibraction. Very good routes.

I'm afraid you're going to find a reality very different from what you imagine. Here in the north of Spain, specifically Asturias where the Picos de Europa are, and where I am from, it is forbidden to circulate on green roads only authorized for agricultural and livestock use or in the case that they are routes that join towns or cities Without another possible way, free camping outside the campsites is also prohibited, and this prohibition multiplied by two in a national park such as that of the Picos de Europe, in a park you can only make routes on foot or by using Authorized vehicles and authorized driver too, and of course nothing to light fires. I don't know how it will be in Portugal. I fear that it will not serve as an essay to go to Africa, this is not at all like that, it will be more like your home in any case.

However, you could enjoy a lot here in Asturias leaving your car behind. There is a lot of wild nature, landscapes, sea and high mountains and gastronomy to know, you will see that it is not the Spain that everyone imagines before coming, that Spain known by all southern and Mediterranean, this is another very different thing. Enjoy it and tell us your trip, and always know better with photos
