I just had to make this post,
I live in the wild western lake district with my D3 and two TD5 defenders.I have at one time or another owned virtually every 4x4 on the market including RRTD6 and many Merc G class.
Anyway enough waffle,I had to get from home in the hamlet of Ulpha to Whitehaven which meant a very tedious trip along the coast road or a risky trip over the Birker fell road.
I chose the latter and having got up there which was impressive to say the least,I then had to get down into Eskdale. The road was sheet ice with snow on top randomly littered with stuck and abandoned cars vans and jap pickups.
This road is very steep with sheer unprotected drops to nasty sharp rocks.I thought I really ought to turn back until I noticed a rather large tractor and trailer jacknifed across the road behind me.
With only one choice I decided to head on down with a sceptical audience.
Bloody amazing!!! I could barely stand still on the road surface but the vehicles sytems did a fantastic job at stunning the onlookers and myself.Sure footed does not get close to what the vehicle did.
Sorry to bore you but it was preety impressive..

Yes, I have been out and about in the snow and ice today, and laughed my off as I drove passed stuck German and Jap 4x4's trying to climb a very steep and slippery hill, with their pilots telling me not to bother as so and so in his Nissan Patrol couldn't even make it, well I said I'll give it a go and if I get stuck then you'll all be able to give me a push, needless to say I didn't see that lot again I don't think I even bothered with the grass, gravel, snow setting Welcome to the Global Warming Corner.

What amazes me is SV's avatar... looks like the D3 fell into a hole, but its actually climbing out of it

I was so delighted with the performance on snow and ice, passing stuck Toyotas by climbing the kerb in the ice and snow, I never tried driving it WITHOUT the GM&S selection on the TR.
I DID try flooring the throttle in stupid places and hitting the brakes where I would not normally.... UNBELIEVABLE compensation for stupidity.
But I never tried SAND MODE . Even more stupid, I know, but what would happen? And now my snow's all melted.
Anyone daft enough to try / have tried it?
A 2006 D3 finally swapped for a 2016 D4 Graphite in Graphite grey. No mods
