England

I have had my 2Ltr D5 since just after Xmas, and its a very different style of driving from either D3 or D4. You have to drive it more like a petrol car to get the best out of it but once you do its a very decent motor. getting 30 plus MPG even on short runs, D3 or D4 never did that.

@ Nasher - I have had 2 D3's and 2 D4's. To put the D5 2ltr in context it has more BHP and Torque than the 2.7 V6 D3, (240Bhp and 500Nm compared to the D3 at 198bhp and 440Nhm) wieghs close on 400Kg less, so a much better power to weight ratio. It has almost as much BHP as the 3 Ltr D4 (@256bhp but not as much torque (500Nm instead of 600Nm). I tow an 1800kg caravan (see avatar) and it tows this very nicely.

I was a detractor when it first came out (mainly its Censored end) , but couldnt find anything else out there that still did the job a well as previous Disco's did so went for one (2 Ltr HSE) So far pretty impressed and its a far superior place to be sitting Thumbs Up

hard to explain, but to me its more like driving my missus's 900cc 3 cyl turbocharged Captur. The 2Ltr does need "more" throttle to get it off the mark, but only for the first few yards and once its up and spinnning will redline very quickly and you'll be down the road pretty sharpish (to 60 is quicker than the D4) The V6's (especially the D4) seem now, by comparrison, to be a lazy but very smooth spin up. It must be something in the throttle control on the 4pot as I have also driven the V6 D5 and that was much closer to the way the D4 drove in terms of engine response. I guess its down to what you want, and given the oil dillution issus with the V6, and is snapped cranks still going to be a continuing saga, thought I'd give the 2 Ltr a go. There's a preety good reveiw of the 2Ltr off road by some Aussie guys that worth a read - they were also impressed with it, and I'm sure that they would have said if it wasnt.

2lt, wouldn’t have the 3lt based on the problems that have appeared on some.

14k miles on the 3l and it does around 34mpg great car...colour and grilles help design wise.

The 240 ingenium has its own issues though.

Balencer shaft whine being a common one.

Having said that though the 2.0 is where my money would go until the straight six becomes available.

Back to Plan A, it’s going to be a late D4 for us.

Talking it through with Mrs Nasher she’s more opposed to the styling of a D5 than I am, which surprised me.

Although I’ve managed to swing the ‘negotiation’ in my favour really, as I managed to get agreement that the difference in cost between a late D4 and a D5 can go towards the cost of a new boat engine. Happy days.

Nasher.

On styling - colour and options do make a massive difference

Dont believe the hype, the engines are good...they sell enough of the 3l'!!

I understand that they’re dropping the 2 litre version. I had a play and tow with a 305bhp 3 litre model last week - it certainly goes well!

It's a shame they didn't offer the SDV8 in the D5. That would be pretty much perfect. Thumbs Up
