Are TSB's a trade secret or are they available to us the punters to use as a reference when a fault presents itself?
The reason that I ask is that my D3 is exhibiting three out of four of the symptoms described in a TSB that I read on the D3 Forum with reference to clutch failure. It is a 56 plate in the VIN range (right in the middle) and has only 26,000 miles on the clock. Three months to end of LR warranty!
Having informed the dealer (Taunton Land Rover) of this situation I seem to be lining up for a struggle. They say that if I want it checked out it's on my authority (in other words I have to pay if the clutch is within limits). My argument about the symptoms seems to cut little ice. The TSB clearly states that if the customer complains about one or more of the symptoms then a clutch is the order of the day.
The symptoms are :
1. Strong smell of clutch after slow manouvering. (I got it after stop start motoring in a traffic jam).
2. Clutch slipping. (I had that as the traffic speeded up after the jam - engine revving but vehicle not accelerating).
3. Difficulty sometimes when engaging gears (I get a notchy engagement in the low gears (1-3)).
4. Clutch pedal sticking down (I don't get that - how long before I do).
The service manager is telling me that once the clutch has cooled down after slipping, it will be okay whereas the TSB clearly states that the opposite. See below:
TSB LTB00018
Subject/Concern: Discovery 3/LR3 - Clutch Slip/Odor
Models: Discovery 3 / LR3 Engine: 2.7L(TdV6) Diesel
Manual transmission vehicles only VIN-range: 5A300394-7A422271
Markets: All
Summary: A customer may report a concern of one or more of the following symptoms:
This bulletin has been re-issued to include a closing VIN.
* Strong odors from under vehicle when, or after, a slow speed maneuver (e.g. difficult parking maneuver), especially when on gradients.
* Clutch slip.
* The clutch pedal has stuck in the downward position or not releasing fully.
* Difficulty in engaging gears.
Cause: The clutch drive plate lining material is not tolerant to high heat inputs caused by slipping, becomes soft and is then damaged beyond recovery even when it has cooled.
Action: Should a customer express concern regarding the above, refer to the Service Procedure detailed in this bulletin to renew the clutch assembly.
Is it me? Advice and assistance gratefully received.

If you take a subscription day/month/year to GTR they can all be found I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

I probably worded that sentence badly. I meant is it accepted that the punter can quote the TSB to the dealer? Never take life too seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

I would say dealers do accept that most of the time, however begrudgingly they do so I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Bill If my symptoms match that of any TSB then I always take a print out to my dealer for resolution. Never had any problems or questions asked 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I used the EPB TSB with great effect at my (old) dealer, they do not like it when you have things in black and white.

Thanks for those two last pieces of advice. I'll give it a whirl next week.
