whilst slowling down and u take ur foot off the accelerator and back on again u get that feeling like a worn uj, mine doesn’t thump but wish to add the software to see if it can improve matters

can be added to the iid for £25 through the fast lane service from Gap

better explained quote from Pat @Gap

The California stop symptoms manifest themselves when reducing speed when entering a roundabout and not stopping the vehicle completely. Giving it gas will produce a thump which can be quite significant in some cases. Updating the transmission helps since they have revised algorithms to provide smoother shifting thus eliminating this issue. There is, however, a risk associated with working on a transmission when they are worn out.

Can’t believe I’ve only just found this thread given all my reading here.

Will follow your experiences closely, GS, as I’m pretty much in the same situation I think.

Key question has got to be how well the turbo cleaner works as I’ve thought of using several times, but a friend of mine, that knows far more than I do, advocates that premium brand diesel, shell BP etc and not supermarket stuff, has cleaner additives included anyway, so makes the use of third party additives unnecessary.

Have you come across a ‘how to’ for changing the hoses? Really keen on that as I think I’ve got a leak somewhere.

Also, found this on my web travels

May better explain turbo operation, but my understanding of this is that the actuator stepper motor is controlled directly by the MAP sensor to maintain a constant air intake pressure, socworth making sure the MAP sensor is both clean and operating.

Second is your quest to disable the actuator. As it fails to safe, so fails open, effectively switches the turbo to providing only minimum boost. So limp mode should be the same as a disabled turbo actuator I guess?

Hi andy

there is a post somewhere ref the hoses, will try and find it for u

indeed it’s been behaving itself so far, famous last words Whistle

see there’s also a turbo boost sensor which i think acts like a limit switch

ref the actuator the turbo has to come out and also a new one has to be re calibrated by a specialist

i used the GT85 as the wd40 isn’t a penetrating oil, i emptied nearly a can on the actuator arm along with spending time moving it back and forth , also double checked when i turned the ign on and off it motored the arm back and forth

the horizontal hose was showing signs of oil, due to the jubilee clip loose so had to put a new one on there, couldn’t get a T bolt clamp like a wanted as it was to wide

also been using the diesel plus fuel and got everything crossed

have spent a lot of time reading up ref the VGT vanes and great info in ur post, couldn’t read the pictures though

wished to see first how the diesel plus worked , am waiting till i go on a long run and will put a bottle of forte turbo cleaner in , been doing just short journeys , prefer to wait

plse let us know how u get on, always good comparing notes

If the actuator jams in maximum boost position or the motor fails in that position then obviously the ecu can't move it, however much it would like too.

In these conditions the ecu finds another way to limit power. e.g limit fuel injected, or ignore large throttle inputs etc. etc.

But yes if it is jammed, setting it to the mid position is a good idea + not putting the throttle flat to the floor

Hi GS

If you look at my signature bar (think its called that)and click the link to my 'gallery', you will find the pictures there. Click the picture, and then click it again in the next page and it will open in full size/resolution.

That should make it readable.

Will definitely keep you up to date on what I find/do, but I am interested in how you find the turbo cleaner works!

kind regards

Andy

Hi Andy

perfect will have a look at , thks Thumbs Up

no probs and will indeed update this thread of the findings concerning the cleaner

also just seen ur other thread when u nearly needed a defib ref the actuator arm nearly coming off

when i was moving the arm with a coat hanger i also noticed it slightly touching the head of that screw, but as soon as i moved the angle of the coat hanger it was fine

the arm seemed to get harder around the 3/4 travel angle, after moving it back and forth and soaking it with GT85 is became easier to move , think possibly where the VGT vanes have carbon on them and by physically moving it with the coat hanger has allowed it to travel further , but alas without being able to see inside am not 100%

i did do a video of the arm moving on mine with the ign cycled on and off but can’t post it on here for some reason, assume the file is to large

can easily email it over to u if u wish as a comparison if u wish to PM an email i can send it to

also don’t know if me having a loose clip on that horizontal hose may have caused an issue

indeed sounds like where both having the same issue

I wonder what happens if you move the actuator with the engine running.

Would the exhaust flow help blow some of the carbon deposits off I wonder. Whistle
It could be less effective that just driving it. May help in cases when it's really stuck solid though.

You wouldn't be able to use oil when the turbo was hot, else it would just smoke/not be effective. You could use it before hand though.

Not sure about engine running, but with ignition in position 2 the actuator arm strongly resists, as I found out yesterday.

Unless you could disconnect the arm from the link, don’t think you could manually adjust the turbo that way.

That rather sounds like you’ve done this with the engine running ....

Please, tell all!
