TV upgrade

Most of the heavier jobs are complete for now on RRS so I am currently planning a more sedate job which is scanning about to see what TV systems there are out there now at this time. I have been looking through the posts here and most are older posts and as tech changes so quick I thought I’d better get some latest tips of options of what to install.
Currently I have the DVD changer/rear headrest screens but no analogue TV, so I would like to add a TV tuner to view via the original screen on my 2007.
I see loads of 12V TV tuner out there for reasonable prices but need to know exactly how to connect a third party digital TV tuner to my original setup?

Is there any more up to date posts/guides out there that may be of use? Any links also would be appreciated.

The alternative is to buy an all in one head unit with TV etc; etc; already built in but would like to check out the original options first. Thumbs Up

Buy a gvif unit and connect the tv through the existing sat nav under the seat you then have a button or remote to turn it to the correct screen as toy will have 3 input plus you can add a reverse camera if you dont have one Thumbs Up

cheers geoff, just correct me if I'm wrong.

When you say 'and connect the tv through the existing sat nav under the seat' - Is there a spare plug for this on the satnav box?

Once the gvif is installed, should there be a TV button now visible on the screen?

Thumbs Up

No you unplug the cable that goes into the sat nav then plug in the lead and you can watch tv but the icon does not come up on the screen you have either a remote or a button to change the sat nav screen but you can also run the rear camera/tv/playstation and one other as it has 3 inputs i have one in mine that i may be selling as i am in the process of fitting a D4 screen Thumbs Up

OK so the gvif interface is a must then for me to view via the original screen? i.e. a 3rd party tv tuner such as this one:

cannot be hard wired to the original screen? You must go through this gvif interface? Thumbs Up

you can go through the existing screen as a hard wire but you have to go through the diagnostic screen each time using 753 but if you want to just press one button and be able to watch tv or anything else then a gvif is a must Thumbs Up

It seems a bit much hassle going through the 753 route every time!

Can I ask what tv module you have in place? So you have the gvif plugged into the satnav that is under the passenger seat and then I take it you must have a 3rd party digital tv tuner also plugged into the gvif box? is that correct? Thumbs Up

I dont remember which model of tv tuner it is but yes you are correct with how my set up was as it no longer has the gvif as i have installed a D4 screen in place of my D3 screen but yes it is a pain to go through the diagnosis screen rather than touch a button on the side of the dash i also had a play station installed through the gvif and the reverse camera Thumbs Up
