Twin Axle Leisure Battery

So having done a load of research and reading I think I have concluded that I am going to go with the following battery once Boris opens the gates to the dealer and lets us take delivery...

https://www.tayna.co.uk/leisure-batteries/...gL0uPD_BwE

On the basis that we will nearly always be on an electric hook-up and not off grid I think a traditional wet battery will be fine.

The banner batteries appear to be a solid build quality, with decent lead plate thickness etc.

I was originally thinking of going AGM but on the basis that the charging regime might be a little erratic added to that a slow trickle charge from a solar panel I thought the Banner would be a better option and longer term investment.

As always I would welcome any feedback or thoughts.

The advantages of AGM are certainly worth considering, they take charge faster and at lower voltage, they do not leak or spill and they will work on their sides and upside down. Thumbs Up

Yes I concur with your point and was heading for an AGM but on talking to some of the more sensible non-pushy battery suppliers they have probably steered me away.

The main reason for the change in direction is the fact that unless you get the charging cycle just right on an AGM you can damage them. Resulting in a shorter life and not getting the benefits that they are promoted on.

As the van will be more often than not hooked up when touring and the fact that the solar panel will mean it is pretty much permanently charging whilst in storage they concluded the traditional battery would be a better fit for my needs. They were confident that it would deliver a similar performance for the motor movers.

I guess time will tell.

Thanks Tintenter Thumbs Up

Do you have a motor mover and if so 2WD or 4WD? How so the Banners cope and what sort of running time do you get?

Your 300w solar panel puts my 100w panel to shame Big Cry

You made the right choice Thumbs Up
The AGM batts do not recover well if ever over discharged. We converted a fleet of vehicle's to them a few years ago and went back to lead acid as simply cheaper. (and they are often over discharged)

If we all were to use the 60 amp Anderson connectors on our leisure vehicle batteries we could so easily loan them out.

Hi Matey,
I’m not sure if this helps I’ve got a excellent platinum one 100 amp leisure battery only used for 7 months it’s been on a new Bailey twin axle and is the extra for one with movers like I had. It’s been a a pro leisure battery charger nothing like a c-tek. While on the caravan it was hardly used as power source was solar and site hook up. I can send some pics if you send an email. I’m based in Doncaster. If you’re collect it’s yours for 70 quid.
Not sure if it helps but these batteries are what are recommended,
Thanks
Graham
