So I’ve been running 19” Cooper Xeon LTZ’s for some time and been generally happy, good off road performance (never been stuck!) and pretty happy on road. however they do seem prone to damage off road. Anybody else experienced this? I’m trying to work out if it is the tyres or if it is simply that Salisbury Plain is my local off road destination and being a chalk down there is a good deal of flint.
I’m ready for another set of four and trying to work out if I get another set of the Coopers or switch to something else. One possibility might be to get a second set of wheels for off road but it’s a V8 so 19’s only
Any thoughts or recommendations appreciated
Thanks

Punctures from flints happen quite a lot on the plain. There are also plenty of random bits of metal around, sadly some of it put there deliberately. I think all the all-terrain tyres are affected, certainly I’ve had a puncture in a Duratrac, and seen new ATRs ruined. I never had a puncture when I was running on MT/Rs although one got sliced through to the chords: If you don’t drive on the motorway mud tyres might be a better bet.
Best thing you can do I reckon is carry a second spare wheel and something to spread the load under the jack.

I don't believe that's true.
The only 18" wheels that will fit are Compomotive and, here in Australia, the new steel Tuffant. The Bearded Dragon

Thanks for the advice guys, think I’ll keep my eyes open for a set of spare wheels (just need to work out where to store them!). In the mean time the new AT/+ look interesting

This is what we use at work on the trucks and Ive used it on many a car tyre with great success.
But you need the applicator and spare nozzles as the nozzles are one use only, so that at least 50 quid just to start!
Use it more than once and it has paid for itself straight away, same as the diy puncture repair kits.
Unlike tyre dough of years gone by this stuff lasts well and of course can be used for all sorts.
