Hi Neil.
Provided the tyres carry an 'E' marker and are within the conditions of the policy there would be no brand restriction on the cover.
They will only pay up to £250 claim limit per tyre. If the replacement tyre costs more then this, then you would be required to pay the difference.
Only available for privately registered/used vehicles across the board.
The tyre fitter/you would ring the number provided and authorise the claim, if the fitter is willing to invoice the insurer and be paid on invoice then they would pay direct otherwise advanced payment by you may be required.
They have a nationwide group of tyre fitters who they reccomend who would take payment direct from the insurance company. There are accounts set up with various fitters including Kwikfit and ATS as well as Nationwide auto centres:

If you ever had a claim, ring the claim line first and they will point you out your local garage, who has an account with the insurer.

Hi Neil.
I am following the policy conditions we have been asked to work to, but as requested i have just called the underwriter and they have asked for the following:
Could you provide me with the exact make and details of the tyres you have on your car, i can then get written acceptance of those tyres from the underwriter direct, so that there would be no problem come claim time.
Please post the details on here or over PM/Email and i will get this information over and a decision made on these tyres.

can you check on the following tyres please
1) Cooper Discoverer ST - 245/70 R17
2) Cooper Discoverer STT - 245/70 R17
looks like a good deal if they are covered.
will they asses the tyre and make a decision how the damage was caused - then possible reject the claim without any hard witnessed evidence ?

took policy out last week, just need to fully read the book, but for £20 a month interest free its worth a punt anyway for a 3 year policy

Thanks Nick.
I have taken all the tyre marques and types to the insurance underwriter, and they have come back and stated, that as these are specialist off road tyres, they would require a detailed report from the fitter as to whether the car has been visually inspected for off road use, and if there were multiple claims, then a inspection may be ordered independantly.
So basically, in a word.
I would avoid claiming on MTR/ATR or any 'specialist' off road tyres on these policies.
So if you are running anything but standard/road tyres, i would not suggest you take this policy at this time.
Thanks guys, think it was worthwhile exploring that area on this though!

Yeah well tyre insurance leads to a lot of claims and isn't a massive money maker for the providers, hence why a lot of providers have backed out of this market area. Any provider left is going to protect their interests as much as possible.
As you mentioned previously, you have every intention of using the car off road and any resulting claims may be put under extra scrutiny, so probably better off only going for this cover if you are using conventional road tyres. Even with the standard D3 tyres, the financial protection on offer is substantial so makes sense really. Especially if you have ever encountered malicious damage or punctures in the past and had to repair/replace a tyre which had plenty of life still left in it! I know i have..
