Tyre wear 3mm/12000 miles |
|
My D3 diesel auto is just over 1 year old and has done 12000 miles. The tyres have worn "evenly" but have 4mm on the edges and 3mm in the middle. Tried to get the dealer to get LR to pay for a new set after raising the issues on here but they maintain that as tyre wear is even there is no case to answer and anyway this amount of wear is normal. All the posts I've searched for relate to uneven wear.
My days of boy racing at the lights are well in the past. The tyres are the Pirelli scorpions that came on it.
Anyone else had this problem

It's not that helpful, but my Disco2 ran it's front tyres to 75k and the rears are still going at 86k - they need changing soon..!
Having just ordered a Disco3, I hope the tyre wear is better than 12-15k.
I do a lot of gentle motorway driving (get between 33-38MPG to give you an idea of how gentle), so I hope for a good run out of my tyres..!
cheers

If you have more tread left at the edges, and worn out in the middle, I would suggest that you have been running with the pressures too high.
All the tyre wear issues I have heard of relate to wear and scrubbing at the inner edges and castellation on the outer edges.

There are just too many variables concerning tyre wear ....most of all is the way you drive. Unless the wear shows the castellation that Gareth has described then LR are unlikely to want to know at that sort of mileage 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

My first set were down to 4-5mm after 12000 miles, but I wasn't in the least bit surprised. There are a lot of corners between home and work, and slowing down is cheating.
My 'spirited' drive to work also explains how my rear brake pads were down to 70% worn by the 15000 service. Again, I'm not fussed. In comparison to the cost of fuel, tyres and brakes are cheap.

I'm with you 100% - my experience (incl the LR response was the same). I have a few tyre gauges, check my tyres weekly and don't have overinflation signs on my other cars. Nice to see that I am not alone!

Seems like I am getting the worst tyre wear of you all - and most of my miles are sitting on the M42 / M6 in traffic!
I need to get new rear tyres tomorrow after only 11,700 miles... I am not happy to say the least The wear is slightly biased towards the outside edges but nothing too abnormal. The front tyres are fine and are no where near worn out.
Any ideas?
