tyres are a pain
got a slow puncture two weeks ago so finally removed the wheel and fitted the lovely space saver (which is a massive PITA of a job when you have the cargo divider etc in place).
tyre put into the local tyre chap who says he cannot repair it as the hole is too near the edge of the tyre.
problem is do i get one new, two new or all of them? they have covered 23000 miles and have 4.5mm of tread left.
or does someone near troon have an SE wheel (10 spoke jobby) with a nearly new Goodyear looking for a new home?
or go the whole hog and get HSE wheels with MTR's on? i do have zero chance of this if SWMBO reads this now

how close to the edge (shoulder) is the hole - punctures, even in the sidewall can be fixed, its just a lot of places dont have the gear, or inclination, to do it, It easier to sell you a new tyre.
If its within about 3/4inch of the edge, its harder to get a patch to hold.

If your on 18" rims which it sounds llke you are, then there is every chance that the best bet is to replace all 4 tyres.
Why go to 19" and MTR's and the extra cost, stay with 18" and get Pirelli ATR or Grabber AT2 or Grabber UHP, the grabbers being significantly cheaper than the pirelli!

apparently it is within the area where the manufacturer says it is bad to patch due to flex. the guy is usually very good so i have no reason to doubt him. think it is as you say and the patch will not hold when this happens

Easy answer is speak to Ken, he will not disappoint, I just had 18" Pirrelli ATRs off him for a very reasonable price.

If you replace 1 tyre and the rest are down near the minimum (4.5mm is not that far from the reccomended 3mm) putting a new tyre with 9+mm of tread may cause some issues with the stability control I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Had that in the past - bleedin blackthorn spines ! FWIW I'd change all 4 now, what with winter coming on, lots of water, mud etc maybe snow - better a few quid now than in the new year when the bank balance is always a bit low .... I liked my D2, but my D3's better ....(& the RRS better still)

I would go for a full size spare option. This way it always gives you the flexibilty to swap round and replace in pairs. I would buy a spare rim and buy either 1 or 2 new tyres depending on the condtion of the tyre on the newly purchased rim.
Also why does the cargo divider affect getting the spare out. You can just raise the rear seat backrests to get to the winder bolt.

it is the 50 50 cage thing to keep the beast in. with the number of mats, covers etc in place it all had to come out to get the two seats up to get to the winder. gave me a reason to hoover the sahara out the boot as well.
plus i found my breaker bar which i thought had walked so all was good.
was quoted 156 for one new goodyear but will phone aroud today.
cheers guys
