Iv been watching his stuff for a few years now, very interesting. Did a very very interesting video about split charge systems and different battery types and how variosu mix and match options wont work.

Yep. I had always run VSR's in my Landcruisers to manage additional batteries, and an easy self managing system. Not so easy in the Disco's (or even the newer 200 series) engine bays due to space issues.

I got just over 7 minutes into that before I had to stop watching it. He does a great job of explaining it incorrectly. His ‘water tank battery’ drawing was completely incorrect to demonstrate the two batteries SOC.

He has some strange views, if you want a laugh watch why the bonnet air scoop is facing the wrong way on a 70 series Cruiser. The original video title was not worded as a question either.



Watch his videos by all means, but don’t believe everything he says to be correct. This applies to all YouTube videos/forums really, but but some need a larger pinch of salt than others.

Yes, he is a bit of a marmite type of bloke.
In SA he was always banging heads with the overlanding/off-roading fraternity due to his views and the fact that he was sponsored, hence his "views" became a bit biased!
Anyways, he's doing what he enjoys and his videos are always interesting (if not always for the right reasons!)

He certainly didn't ingratiate himself with the overlanding fraternity. But credit where credit is due, he has managed to get a lot of miles under the belt both in SA and Aus, and getting other people to pay for it. Something I think many would like to do. I've met him on a few occasions, and he's not such a bad guy. Pretty happy to share his views and pass on contacts. He's not all bad.

Here's a good walk around on a good LC79 build. This is done without skimping like ASP did (I suspecct he's still spending ZAR's Very Happy ) These guys have done some great custom builds on overlanders.

Any idea what they retail for??
Half the fun is actually in the building, or should I say "customising", your own overland vehicle.

Cost entirely dependent on the mods. These guys work through Toyota as well so you can order your vehicle with full warranty in tact. I've done a few LC79's for overlanding, and yes, it is very satisfying.

Just checked their website and that build was sold for $135,000 AUS, so about £94,000.
Very good standard of engineering!!

The D4 or D3 don't lend themselves to be retrofitted like the LC's due to their vehicle management systems. Also there's not really any point to building vehicles to this spec in the UK, and the Discoveries aren't really popular offroad vehicles in that part of the world.
