Maybe not so interesting to you now, but did the WD guy submit his report to you? Interested to know the root cause of the failure. Seized engine - but what caused it? Blocked oilway? wrong oil? etc etc

Had a call from the garage yesterday morning and car is almost ready (probably Friday).

He has been using it for a few days as a shakedown to check everything. I asked how the new engine was, he said absolutely lovely, really really nice.

He also told me that it is one of the nicest Discos he has ever driven, no rattles or knocks-he was genuinely surprised. I feel very happy about that, as I do look after cars and have spent time and money on the upkeep.

I have a personal bill of about £900, which is for 2 upper rear suspension arms, full complete front to rear brake pipes and a new battery.

I think his personal report has made the decision for me to keep it. This guy has years and years of experience, and I do listen to his opinion.

So I decided that the Disco stays and the Range Rover goes. I popped an advert on FFRR.com at about 10am, and by 6pm a guy from there had come and driven it, paid and taken it away!

I loved the RR, but the Disco is newer and now has a warranty on the engine, plus everything else has been done. I will save up a bit and buy a Full Fat supercharged next year, as a second car.

I will do another update when I have collected and driven it.

By the way, the garage are gobsmacked by Warranty Direct. They have never had such an easy transaction and dealings with a warranty company.

Nice. Is that what WD always replace with, or did you have to fight for it? It looks like your garage isn't a dealer, so just interested to find out what they normally do if your car ends up at an Indy.

The indy "normal" choice is to use a second hand lump out of a crashed car. They dont trust re manufactured engines and of course the customer is usually paying, so they try to keep the cost to the customer as low as possible.

Warranty company asked for a quote for "new" engine, not allowed a used engine if claiming from them. Garage looked at all options and after comments on here, I pushed for a LR engine. Disco Mickey was helpful, by saying that a new LR engine was no more than a re manufactured one, so I pushed for that (although they were happy to what I asked, so no real pushing required.)

I bought the warranty at 71000 miles, and did a rolling contract at £66 a month.
