V8 D3 - oil leak at front of engine and what to look for

Hi All,
Looking at a D3 V8 2005 this week, it has on MOT history that it has an oil leak at the front of the engine, I am not sure if this has been rectified as of yet but so i have an idea - is there a known leak point and is it of concern?
I am used to D3 but not the V8, anything else to look at specific to this model?

Thanks
Baz

Hi
I haven’t seen the vehicle yet just got top of engine picture and the detail of the leak was just off mot.
Reading my post it’s a bit all over the place so apologies.

I am keen to know, are there any known oil leaks to look out for on the V8 and are any a huge cost / concern to rectify.

As I say I am familiar with the tdv6 so is there anything to look out for on the v8 before purchasing
Thanks
Baz

No worries Thumbs Up

Same things as on the TDV6, really. The V8 itself is pretty solid. In principle the timing chains can start rattling eventually but it’s around 400k km or so, if then. They’re self-tensioning and all. It does get funky and difficult errors to troubleshoot (lean bank X for example), see the “US” forum landroverforums.com, it’s mostly petrol discussion there. Getting the air out is sometimes difficult when changing coolant. The plastic thermostat housing is Censored and will eventually become brittle and fail.

It is a pleasure to drive it. Good luck with your potential vehicle. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Fab thank you so much that’s really good.
Trying to have all the info I need to stop the heart ruling the head and make a perfectly balanced decision when I start it up and hear the v8 burble.

You won't hear any v8 burble when you start it up unless the exhaust has been messed with they are pretty silent which is what you notice the most when driving it compared to the tdv6.

As mentioned thermostat housing is an issue no known real engine faults with the jag lump. If you don't buy put the details of it on here incase someone else is keen.
