V8 Overheated - HELP!

Hi everyone
I'm a new member based in Qatar but have a serious problem with my 2006 LR3 petrol V8!

The wife was out driving and it lost power. When she stopped she saw it was overheating. She swears the temperature gauge was not high and no warning lights appeared. (She is very very upset over the whole ordeal)

We recovered it to our local garage (Not an LR dealer as the only one is Qatar is Sooooo expensive!). It turns out a hose split and she lost all the coolant. They have repired the leak and fitted a new thermostat, but its still overheating. She starts and runs OK but overheats after about 30 mins ticking over. One saving grace is we had her serviced last week (the LR3, not the wife) so oil and coolant is in good order.

I have seen that some other members have seen this lack of high temperature indication, but of course my LR3 has no warranty and I am worried it might be in for an expensive repair! Does anyone have any experience of this with regards to:

1) Why did the temp gauge and warning light not activate?
2) What is likely extent of damage? Head gasket change or could it be more serious?
3) It the heads are warped, it is OK to skim or best to get new heads?
4) Do I have any chance of any assistance from LR?
5) Anyone know good LR spares suppliers in the Middle East

Thanks in advance for any advice any of you can offer.
