was taken (with my iPhone) while the car was in "P" (I had the door open so it's easier to hear). Air con was off (not econ, but off). It's a 2005 V8 with 145,000km on the clock....
If you can hear the whine, should I be worried about it??
Thanks very much!

So there's definitely something wrong then??
Do I need to get it sorted ASAP do you think? Is there anything I can check myself?
Thanks Baben! (again!)

Thanks er1c - the general consensus is that it's one of the bearings - idler pulley most likely. Investigations start today!

OK, so the tensioner pulley bearing was replaced today and the whine persists.... Does anyone have any ideas as to what else I can try??

Legend. Thanks Bodsy.

Sounds exactly like mine. It as been like that for about 2 years now (since I bought it), and it gets a little worse with A/C on.
Always thought that a v8 shouldn't sound that sissy, but hey.. it never stopped working or gotten any worse so never bothered to get it fixed.
Is it expensive/difficult to fix?

For you or for your dealer....?
There is an updated procedure that involves removal of the bearing and pulley rather than changing the whole AC pump, so it is a lot easier than it used to be....
About an hours labour & about £50 for the parts ISTR.Bodsys Brake Bible
