What are the cons on the D3?

Some have the opinion that the vacuum process will not either remove enough oil (yet you can check how much you remove) or that it is less likely to remove heavier deposits compared with the sump plug and that it denies a visual inspection of the sump plug itself. They will carefully skip the argument that dealers usually suck the oil away anyway.

The counter opinion is that tests have shown little, if any, difference in the oil quantity removed, that most contaminants are trapped in the filter or left suspended in the removed oil and that small amounts of oil left in the engine is exactly the same stuff you were running on moments earlier and will be diluted and rejuvenated by the new oil. This side of the argument will carefully skip over the lack of plug inspection but propose that those who suck away oil tend to do more frequent oil changes which enhances engine life and performance.

Away from these polarised arguments there are a select few who just don't care and use either method. Thankfully I am in this group.

Ok, gone for the 5L Oil Safe - all in it will cost me nearly £100. Big Cry

Still, if it sees me out it will be worth it.

Thanks for the tips.

You've opened the wound now, you really need to get one of the dispensers lids too, it will transform your life. They have a thumb trigger vent in the handle and if your rocker cover can take it(many can't) you can dump 5L of engine oil in a few seconds and not spill a drop.

Can be had reasonably cheap if you are not fussy about a certain colour, there's a few on ebay at the moment.

The utility lid I ordered is bright yellow with a Shell Oil logo.... but much cheaper than buying a specific colour.
