Do any D3s actually have a tilt sensor?

Well that I don't know, sorry, I appreciate it's a different product of course. My point was that the obvious (bonnet sensor, common cause of FF alarm problems) turned out not to be the cause.

I guess someone on the forum must know. The D3 alarm architecture allows for a tilt alarm but my MY05 HSE did not have one and I cannot recall stumbling across one; at least not on a UK spec car. Come to think of it I am not sure what my D4 has either. Embarassed

I don't think the D4 has one, its certainly not mentioned in the handbook. Maybe they thought its so damn heavy no one will ever try and tilt the thing anyway Laughing

My mistake, it seems my mirrors do get closer to the glass than I thought, although there is a gap of about 5mm so they don't touch.

Rolling with laughter My D3 mirrors: When folded there is 5mm between mirror case and glass, near enough identical both sides.

In the manual for my MY13, it says that when the Full Alarm is activated, the alarm system will sound if:
The bonnet, tailgate or a door are opened.
Movement is detected within the vehicle interior.
A window, front or rear windscreen or sunroof glass are broken.
The vehicle battery is disconnected.
An attempt is made to disconnect the alarm system

Or............

The vehicle is raised or tilted!

As you, best of luck in trying to raise or tilt Wink

Well, as per "armalites", I've had to pop outside and look at my 62 reg H.S.E. My wing mirrors fold in evenly each side, leaving about a 5mm gap, BUT they do not touch the glass.
I'm no expert on Discoveries, but I would have thought it's wrong if the mirrors touch the glass, regardless of which side. I mean, why would they?
Should a new poll be started?

Well I was convinced one of mine touched, but it is nearly 3mm clear!

Guys

Thank you everyone for your input so it looks like the issue is yet another annoying fault with my D4, Sorry can't remember everyones names as I can't multi-quote (admin needs to correct this one if possible Thumbs Up )

So I'll try and reply to everyone you know who you are lol

Missing my XF Bow down Thumbs Up thats a deffo a yes lol but I've had to accept the XF had to go for the D4 and after test driving a new one the ride and comfortability are pretty much the same you only notice the difference when you try and throw it around then you remember its 2 tons lol…. Maybe if I had no faults I'd not be so pee'd off lol…

Mirrors today well what can I say went to garage today to show the drivers hitting glass it juddered closed then I thought it hadn't hit glass but misses said it did so in morning ill go out and measure distance it def takes drivers longer to swing open that passengers side….

Alarm keep going off……………..Today hasn't done it once and even at garage after messing around with sensor under bonnet still wouldn't go off……. Tilt sensor thats a very interesting train of thought for our car its something I think maybe the issue and will be testing that tomorrow because as it happens my misses parked at kids school which is on a hill so car would of been tilting nose and someone walked passed maybe a coincidence and the alarm went off…. Its so annoying when it goes off as its so loud and you just know all the nosey neighbours are looking lol…. plus next door has a young child and even though my 11 month daughter doesn't stir its not nice wondering if your car has just woke their child up….

A poll would be interesting for the mirrors is it more common than thought…

Again all thank you for your input you have all been very friendly (unlike the Jag forum pmsl)

Thumbs Up Bow down

As you sit nearer to it, I do notice the drivers mirror closes with quite a thud (much louder than my Honda), so it could sound as though it is hitting the glass.

May be way off beam, but could your alarm be as simple as a little creature in the car of some description. I had a moth in mine one time that annoyed the neighbours until I discovered it.

Did you also mention that you don't use the parking brake? I believe it's much more likely to be in good working order if you use it regularly.

Yep, some false alarms can be traced to a strange source. I helped someone fit a Danhag FBH kit to their D3 only to find that it in some conditions the warm air fans set-off the internal alarm. It took quite a bit of investigation to get to this diagnosis!
