Vehicle speed Sensor/Wheel Speed Sensor Supply Circuit Fault

Good day from Canada,
This is my first post and I will be brief.
I have a 2005 LR3 with around 140k miles on it. V8 and doing great overall.
After a heavy rainstorm last week, I had wet carpets and water standing on the side of the passenger seat. Dried it all up and fixed the hose issue behind the CBJ.
Three amigos plus emergency park beak, suspension fault and speedometer inop still remain.
When running the gap tool, I noticed the error code from the rear speed sensors.
Looking for input where to start. I doubt, that both sensor go out at the same time.
Expecting issues in the cable to the ABS ECU.
Help is appreciated. Big Cry

2005 LR3 SE V8, 4.4l
144K miles, first owner
Things I fixed over the last 16 years:

Front Bushings
Tailgate opening mechanism
Sunroof water leak
Suspension Compressor x 3
Suspension Compressor upgrade
Ignition coil change
Spark plugs change
Key fob inop due to water leak on cables in door frame/passenger side
Water coolant leak in thermostat housing. Replacement
Condenser AC coolant leak and replacement
Wheel bearing x 3 front left
Door check replacement
Window control unit
Thermostat housing change
Serpentine belt change
Parking sensor x2
Gap IID Compressor ECU flash
Freon AC Top up
Turn signal switch replacement
Break switch replacement
Brake pads replacement
Brake ware sensor replacement
CBJ removal and reinstall
Water leak sunroof front right and left

Check the multi plug connector at the rear wheel, its just behind the rear passenger side wheel, it might also be water in the channel from front to rear if you have had a flood in there.

Flack Thumbs Up

Thank you for the fast reply.
I have dried up the cable channel completely and couldn’t find any more water pooling anywhere.
Will check the plug in the rear later on. That was on me list of things to do next. I have ordered a new brake switch and checked all the light bulbs. Had water standing in the left rear brake light.
Keep you updated. Smile

When you unplug the block terminal this will disconnect the height sensors, an so the suspension will likely need recalibrating afterwards.

Sometimes you can get away with it, but one or two corners might not sit right when you plug the block back together. Thumbs Up

Here is a quick update.

I was able to locate both ABS sensors and cables in the rear. Both were intact and showed no wear or damage. Cleaned both sensors and the connectors with electrical cleaner spray.

Here my thought process to continue. It seems that the signal from both rear sensors is not making it to the front as seen on the Gap tool results. I noticed, that both wires from the rear run on the right hand side (passenger side) to the fusebox in the front right of the engine bay. Maybe even to the CBJ in the passenger foot room area. As they are running on the outside and underneath the car, the water intrusion in the passenger foot room should not have interfered with them functioning. Unless the water also ran down the a-pilar and on some of the connectors involved.
I think my next step will be the removal of the front left wheel inner liner to follow the cables up into the CBJ or junction box in the engine bay. Somewhere there both sets of cables (2 from front and 2 from rear) should meet and then continue to the ABS ECU on the driver side of the engine bay. I guess.

The only message left on my gap scanner beside the lost conn message is the "P0501-00(2F) Vehicle speed sensor A range/performance". This is after I clear all faults. Still have all the lost comm warnings.
I have attached some pics from the gap tool. They all show faults, front and rear. But only the front sensors give actual speed readings.

Any thougths? Lugano Teal

Did you check the block terminal as suggested by Flack?

I was able to locate both ABS sensors and cables in the rear. Both were intact and showed no wear or damage. Cleaned both sensors and the connectors with electrical cleaner spray and reassembled them.

When I followed the cable after the connector end of the ABS sensor harness, it disappeared towards the front and below the car. This is happening on the right side. The same setup on the left rear, whereto harness loops over to the right side and joins the cable from the right side rear ABS sensor. I couldn't locate a multi plug, that had the ABS wires included.
Not so sure what I am looking for to be honest. This is a Canadian Vehicle btw. Steering on then left.

Tomorrow afternoon I have some time to take the front left wheel of and see how much water damage occurred in there. Especially curious about the area below the CBJ and battery compartment where the cable from the rear ABS sensors runs to. I think that there was a lot of water flow down the a-pilar originating form the sunroof.

Found this post which I think describes my problem. I hope:

Remove the left hand rear wheel and you will see a large black terminal block sitting on top of the chassis rail. (There should be a plastic shield obscuring it)

You want to clean the the muck off individual wires and very carefully inspect each one on either side of the block. Look for breaks in the cables or stone chips in the sheathing allowing moisture ingress. (green spots!)

If nothing seems obvious wind back the outer sheath further along where it runs up into the body behind the mud flap side of the wheel arch. Often corrosion gets in along this cable and again you are looking for breaks or chips in the coating. Sometimes the grommet where the cable enters the body (boot floor) or trunk if you prefer Smile can rot away allowing the cable to foul on the metal bodywork. Then check the other side of the block terminal wires which feed the chassis requirements in the same way.

It's less common for any water to enter the block terminal itself, but if there is nothing obvious wrong with the wires you will probably have to open the terminal to check the internal condition. As I said in an earlier post, in doing so you will likely disturb the programmed suspension height settings. So expect recalibration of at least one corner using your IID. (guided calibration)

Good luck Thumbs Up

I will check that tomorrow as well.
Took a quick photo of the area. That should be it.

No, that's the suspension valve block. It's on the chassis rail behind the strut!!!

This is it here, the cover pulls down towards you and is held in place by a couple of locking teeth on the other side.

Roger. Saw the same setup in the front right wheel. Now I know what to look for. Thanks.

Once you have dropped the cover, twist the block terminal off of it's housing base and inspect as described earlier Thumbs Up

Perfect. Found it.

Any tips on how to clean electrical connectors from crusty mud and dirt. Was thinking of using WD40 or electrical contact cleaner and compressor air.

Any suggestions or experience?

I would just use electrical cleaner, compressed air might blow the seals out the rear of the plug and allow water in.

Well, this didn't work.
Checked the rear left wheel connectors as described above. All cleaned and inspected. No rubs, breaks or cuts. Did the same with the front. Tons of muddy dirt in the area where the water should have come down from the sunroof drain. Plugs, connectors and wires looked clean and without damage. ABS sensors looked good.

Changed all 4 rear light bulbs. No change. The only thing still missing is the brake switch. In the mail.

Took a look at the codes before clearing them again. Here they are. Any ideas?
