I also wonder how much local councils pay out for pothole damage to vehicles

I honestly think VED is the bargain of the year considering that you get access to literally millions of miles of roads, having owned and consequently had the cost of maintaining a private road, it costs in the region of £200 to fill a pot hole depending on size, if every car owner paid to fill one pot hole in there would not be any, I cannot understand why drivers who are paying nothing or very little VED complain about the condition of roads, but I do agree the maintenance of some roads is a disgrace and all LR owners do have a right to complain as we are the ones who are paying a questionable amount.
Land/Range Rovers are notoriously expensive but IMHO it is just a way of obtaining money for what they are capable of, for instance you cannot tow with an ordinary car what you can with a LR nor can you carry 7 people in comfort and most owners have them for this reason.

Wonder how long the pot hole repairs would last , lol

It’s daylight robbery.

That is a bargain imho

In NL we pay for a D3 around 2000 gbp a year…

BUT we don’t have potholes here…

Aha, just taxed two of our cars yesterday. My missus 900 cc Captur - £30, and my 19 yr old Z4 - £360.

I think the D5 was £465. It’s the cost for the enjoyment of driving these days

Often wondered how it would compare putting the cost of car insurance and road tax onto fuel duty

Exactly my point. Not so sure about insurance but if fuel duty included tax the nobody gets away with it and the more you use it the more you pay.
Just make it fair. There are cars on the road registered a few months before mine and are exactly the same but pay less than half the tax.

It's getting to the point on some D3s that annual car tax is over 10% of the vehicles value now.

Whilst the idea / dream of owning a nice big LR is something many aspire to there is also a reality of owning these beasties now. Buying a D3 is one thing, but running costs are such that the dream can become a nightmare. With the rise in fuel costs and environmental consciousness there is only one way D3 and D4 prices are going.

I hope I’m right in thinking that as my FFRR was first registered in June 2017, the next “tax” payment will be the sixth one and therefore reduces to about £165 for the year. 🤞

VED could easily be added to fuel duty and this may be a good idea.

Insurance could not, in my view, after all the premium varies with the value, type & age of vehicle, its use, the record of the drivers etc.

Many thks and indeed see ur point ref insurance with its many variations , Including private / commercial

plus talking of insurance I’ve even toyed with the idea of one day changing my D3 to either a TDV8 or possibly a RRS, FFRR is out the question

I always like to go into depth before buying any vehicle , from cost of insurance , set of tyres, servicing costs etc Alas insurance for a petrol RRS would be around £800 per year , therefore hopefully I can keep my D3 going for as long as possible

Plus 1 Still weird how VED goes up from a euro 3 to 4, would have thought seeing the emissions are better it would cheaper

^The cost of my insurance (NFU Mutual) for my FFRR is only marginally more than my 2016 D4 Landmark.

I actually average more mpg in the FFRR, which is a bonus.

Servicing, must be more expensive but not noticeably so.

I’m about to renew the LR extended warranty and that’s more expensive, but the overall running costs compared to my D4’s really aren’t much more.

Hi,

another 5 years after the first new car tax so think your June 2023 before £165 Question

Decide what car you want and pay what you have to pay,
be that Depreciation, fuel cost, Tax cost or maintenance costs

or in the case of most Whistle landrovers ALL of the above Laughing

Your only here once Buy what you want, we can still moan about it but at least you've owned it

Thumbs Up

That’s what I have not checked out yet.

It was first taxed when new in 2017, so when I pay for it to be taxed in 2022 it will be the sixth time that it’s been taxed.
