Wading

So what is the best mode to be in for some wading, we have some flooding round here and I'm off wading, the old D1 was a case of low range plough on, not sure what they said on the LRE day about this one, to busy giggling Laughing

I would probably go for off road height, low range and sand mode, but then I'm usually wrong.

Off road height, low range if there's a lot to traverse, normal mode normally works for me

I would imagine Low 2 would be sufficient to keep momentum and speed down (to avoid breaking the bow wave you WILL create).

Grass/Gravel/Snow if the surface is slippery underneath. On flooded tarmac then Sand to keep the revs up will help.

GGS on a manual is a bit of a pain as its far too easy to stall as your progress is hampered by the water Embarassed so maybe Sand is better or even Mud and Ruts. M&R retards the revs slightly and less dramatically than GGS.

other than raising the suspension (preferably whilst other drivers are watching) i've never felt the need to consider anything other than a low gear in high range when traversing flooded roads, an auto should be fine in high range also.
Just be aware that there may be debris washed onto the road surface and in extreme cases the road itself may be washed away... if the water is moving, watch out for changes in the flow as this usually indicates changes in the underlying surface

On Tarmac
This is my reason for choosing low range, sand mode, water is heavy and flowing water is even worse. the extra power would help should you need it. Remember you need to maintain the bow wave.
