Warranty direct - Running out of miles!

I am now 1000 miles short of my allowed mileage for the year. My WD policy is Luxury care, 15k allowed miles in the year, but expiry date is not until 21st March 2018. I've done a few more miles than I thought this year.

Has anyone experience of whether WD will accept an extension (with a payment from me obviously) to take my policy forward to renewal date, or will I simply need to renew early?

Now on 86k at 5 years old. I don't think they will give me Luxury care anymore, but what is the next level that they will offer me, and can betterment still be removed? I hate the concept of betterment, in my opinion if your car needs fixing and it ends up better, then it's good for another 5 years at least.

Any experiences welcome before I 'engage' with them.

Gareth - mines older but they would not, under any circumstances remove Betterment due to car age and mileage - which meant I would pay 50% of any parts due to the age and mileage (8 years in March / 110K), though they did offer to reduce premium as my annual mileage is now much lower than when I first took it out

I had Major Care.

Went with Motoreasy instead

I managed to keep no betterment right up to the end of warranty cover, prob up to 125k plus, as I'd had it from the start. Worth a try on getting more LuxCare, would have thought slim chance. Never tried to extend the mileage, I did run out of miles and noticed when I was mid haggle over renewal. We agreed to renew on schedule and I take the risk til then.👍

Hi Gareth
I'm with WD and had the same issue, I called them and got the mileage allowance increased with no cost which surprised me Very Happy
However if things do go wrong and you have exceeded the mileage I reckon you will be on thin ice regarding a claim Sad
I'd give them a call even a small premium increase is worth the peace of mind, use your upcoming renewal as a bargining chip, plenty more warranty companies out there!
Good luck
Rob

Cheers chaps. Mine has been on cover since 3 years manufacturer warranty ran out. I have no complaints with WD as yet.

I'll call them this morning as I have a busy schedule this month which will easily put 2k under the wheels!

Another point to make is that if it was not for the engines reputation for snapping cranks, and the extortionate cost of repair, id be winging it without warranty!

So betterment removal is a red line for me.

I don’t have a warranty (over £10k of brand new engine paid for and fitted by JLR 2 years ago plus a bit of man maths means I feel financiallly ahead without one!)

However, I’m posting just to agree 100% with your point about betterment - it is the most illlogical, stupid concept I’ve experienced in the motoring world. Feels like another thinly veiled mechanism to extract money from punters.
 Cheers,

Gareth

I also notice that WD have been sold to anotner holding company. Still underwritten by the same insurance co, so not expecting any cover change, but the quest for profits might have an effect.

Will keep us up to date with my result!

Not sure about increasing, but I have my limit set to 25k per year. Just be aware they will do it for free, so next time you renew, just go for the 25k/year regardless.

I did my first year on Extracare with betterment, but after the year was up, I renegotiated and took out a 3 year policy, betterment removed. Getting the betterment removed is really important as they get older. I had £2.5k of WD repairs in December, and I would have been looking at a hefty % if I didn't have betterment removed. As it happens, I did so only cost me £150 for 3 claims. The betterment removal cost me £50 at the negotiation point, and well worth it Thumbs Up

Just got off the phone, and WD have now apparently scrapped mileage limits on policies. Not sure how that works, but the chap said it was no problem, and just reset the start mileage on my current policy to the current 86k, and said so long as I don't exceed 100k before renewal at the end of March, I'm fully covered.

I briefly discussed my options at renewal, and he was reluctant to talk too much because he said it was a bit early, but he said I would be offered Secure care, but he reckoned I'd be able negotiate Extra care depending on my mileage in March.

I think if you renew with them without a break, you should be able to keep the level of cover you have.

I think I renewed at 70+K and kept the ExtraCare.

I took a 3 year policy out, so will stay on that level of cover until then
