Water In Door Sills...

Hi All.

I've done some searching here but can't get the right info, maybe I'm missing a trick and someone can link me to a thread?

Problem was the fob not working and I've found the offending green and white wire, re-done the connection and heat shrunk the connection - all is well. However, there is a fair bit of water in the sills where the wiring loom sits on the passenger and rear passenger areas that seems to just it there, and I am looking for a decent way to drain it and find the ingress area?? Anyone done this and can offer some pointers - This is a 2005 D3 HSE TDV6 - I'm considering drilling an exit drainage hole in a few areas, but not sure if that's the right way to go - always feels wrong drilling into a cars bodywork!

The sunroof drains are clear and working as they should and pressure spraying the windscreen areas does not show any leaks in the firewall, so I'm at a loss to understand where the water ingress is coming from?

Thanks in advance.

I recall similar issue on a D3 without sunroof. Water was following the path of a split rubber trim in rear door aperture, took quite a while to locate the problem.

Thank you - I'll have a look at that possibility...

I remember reading ages ago it was a good idea to remove a few of the lower cill retaining clips, this may not help your issue, but while you are in that area.
Sunroof rear drains exit in the rear arches by the 2nd row belt buckles.

Have you checked the A pillars, there are some holes under the plastic trim that need to be taped over or otherwise sealed.

Many thanks for the replies. I've checked most things and still at a loss as how to get rid of the water? Is drilling a hole the only option?

Have you checked the state of the drain tube elbow behind the CJB? Even though the drain tube is clear if the elbow is perished some water may still leak into the cab.
This may help. https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic119322.html

I had some water ingress from the windscreen trim piece that goes across the base of the screen, (the wiper spindles also go through this) the rubber was perished and the water was leaking through, into the heater air intake on the passenger side, down past the fuse box(!) and onto the passenger side floor, fitting a new trim piece (about £60 as I remember) cured it.

I also made a deflector for the air intake so it couldn't happen again, there's a thread on that elsewhere on here where someone used a cut up 5L bottle to make the deflector

One more spot is the hood gasket along the firewall in the corner.

Update: Thanks for the help and advice offered. I found the water ingress area and have made a few holes to drain out the water that is standing in the sills and floor pan. Was amazing how much water drained out! Water was coming in through the passenger side window panel - the covers had not been replaced with the correct plugs an some were broken so water was pouring in when it rained. Sunroof drains are all fine. Carpets and sound damping were removed and water was pressed out and left to stand and dry out as best as posssible. Hopefully that does the trick - thanks again.
