Water in Fuel

Hi - the "Water in Fuel" warning has been popping up for the first couple of minutes of every journey recently. So this weekend I followed the guidance elsewhere on the forum and tried to drain the fuel filter (which incidentally I replaced for an OEM unit a few months ago). I turned the yellow "water-in-fuel drain port" two complete turns but nothing came out. I turned on the ignition and again nothing came out. I took the yellow drain port off completely and there was a drip or two of fuel but nothing else. Any clues what I am doing wrong? Confused

Thanks in anticipation.

Mines a D3 but presume it's the same? There wasn't any water in the fuel. Replaced the fuel filter housing & all good. Think it's quite a common fault.

Thumbs Up

Wasnt there a recent post where the pattern filters did not have the hole to drain the filters?

Thanks for the replies.

I jacked the D4 up this weekend and whipped off the fuel filter. I emptied out the diesel from the filter and found it was slightly cloudy. The fuel filter is a genuine LR item with the 3 slots to allow drainage. I replaced the water-in-fuel sensor with a new item and fitted the fuel filter back on the car and re-primed it. All good so far. This morning, I started it up only to see the water in fuel warning again. Big Cry I am beginning to wonder if the diesel in my tank was contaminated. I have re-filled with, hopefully, clean diesel and my fingers are crossed that this will fix it...

I had the WAter in fuel fault - replaced the filter and checked for water - absolutely none present at any time. Reset of fault code didn't work.
So I removed the housing and checked it out with my multimeter. All seemed OK and sensible, so cleaned the yellow sensor. Still gave WIF fault. Tried just disconnecting the wiring - this gives an open circuit error.
Cleaned all connections with electrical contact cleaner. Tried resetting with Bluetooth Gap iid tool. Still gave WIF fault for several days and then it disappeared.

I would try cleaning up all the electrical connections first, and leave it a few days to see if it resets itself.
