water in fuel
I have a message on my display screen "Water in Fuel". Now I know it means I have some water in the fuel and my fuel is pretty low at the moment. Its just a informative message not a warning message. Any ideas what to do. Do I have to drain the tank, change the fuel filter etc or just fill up with fuel and see if the message goes away. Its due a service in June.

I had the same problem. Several people said it could be a faulty sensor and others told me to keep filling up with the "higher" grade diesel and after 3 tank fulls it went out and hasn't come back on. After the 3 tank fulls I reverted back to the cheaper diesel. If it's not difficult, it's not worth doing!

Could also be corrosion on the fuel filter housing itself. Done a few recently at work.

Probably means you need to drain the water from the fuel filter.

water in fuel
Many thanks for the replies.
I'll fill the tank tomorrow and see what happens. If the warning goes out I'll just let them know next service.
If it doesn't go out I'll get them to drain the water out of the filter.
Is that where the sensor is?

Yes, the filter is under the drivers seat.
You get access to it from under the car after you remove a few covers.

You are best to open the water drain tap on the bottom of the filter to make sure as if the water builds up it will run to all sorts of problems.

fuel additives bind small amounts of water in fuel. i use these with every tank in winter to protect my egrs and turboThere's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song
Had this around Christmas - sensor faulty and replaced under warranty

Hi
Thanks to everyone that gave me advice about my water in fuel warning. I eventually had time to take a look. I took the cove off under the drivers seat and no fuel filter. So I looked around and found what looks like the fuel filter further forward. It seems to be mounted horizontally and does not seem to have a drain.
The Discovery is a 2008.
Did Land Rover change the type of filter and the position?
I'll wait and see if anyone can help if not I'll have to take it into the dealer.

It's underneath the car, not underneath the drivers seat.
The one further forward does not have a drain on it, yoiu need the one further back, underneath a metal housing (three bolts I think to undo).
The filter has a yellow end which just needs turning to drain off what's there. Bodsys Brake Bible

I had it on my D4 yesterday just after i went through a massive puddle ''you know the bow waving type'', thought i might have sucked a little into the air intake which triggered the message but only guessing, it cleared itself but on stop and resart appeared again but then went, and has not come up since.MY18 D5 HSE LUX😎

This is what you are looking for.
You can see the drain marked - the yellow part unscrews to drain the water out.

Hi Bodsy
Yes when I said under the seat I meant under the car but directly under the drivers seat.
I took the cover off held with six bolts but could not find any filter.
Thanks to Trackman for the photo. When I get the chance again I'll have another look.

I've had this recently and as Q86ARR suggested it was a corroded filter housing. Repaired by dealer and not returned since.RLD CB Bracket
