Way Finder now FREE for all
PRESS RELEASE
17th November 2006
for immediate release
----------------------------FIND YOUR WAY WITH WAYFINDER----------------------------
Anyone throughout the UK can now get rights of way information free of charge for their local area. Wayfinder is an online database of public rights of way that contains details of over thirteen thousand routes that are open to the public. This information will be invaluable to everyone, from those looking for somewhere to casually walk their dog to the most avid mountain biker or horse rider.
Wayfinder was started six years ago for the benefit of the members of a small number of clubs. Until now access has been very limited. But it has grown into a resource that will benefit anyone who wants to get out and about in the countryside. For this reason it was decided that membership should be opened up to everyone who wants to find out more about rights of way. The UK has a unique heritage of paths and old roads that provide an ideal way for anyone to get out and about and enjoy the countryside. They offer an opportunity to get away from the hussle and bussle of the busy world and also provide an enjoyable way for the whole family to get physical exercise and mental relaxation all at the same time.
Not only does Wayfinder tell users where rights of way are located, it also allows users to record the fact they have used a path which is essential information that can be used to protect rights of way for future generations. Wayfinder also allows users to report problems such as obstructions and this information is fed back to local councils so that they can effectively deal with such problems.
Anyone who would like a Wayfinder account should visit the Wayfinder website at

I have registered and logged on - what an amazing store of info this site is!
I'd recommend downloading the TrackExplorer client - whilst not perfect, once you get your bearings its a great interface to the Wayfinder database and its detail
I am already making notes on more lanes near me! Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Just to let you know, although the interface is good - it COULD be better - I want to have the waypoint overlays directly onto an OS map...
I'm having a little tinker to see what I can come up with Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

I've just downloaded the overlay exporter from Way Finder ...
Which gives a map load of waypoints in Memory Map format, and it works brilliantly!
Thoroughly recommended. Long succession of Disco's since 2001...
SIII Lightweight - neglected & rusting. Bulkhead, A panels, vent panel & outriggers now disintegrated - Next years project!
