Webasto Heater On/off

Seaons Greetings Folks

Has anyone wired the Webasto Heater to come on from a simple on/off switch in the cab. I have to sit freezing while the duaghter does her horsey stuff and was wondering if I can wire the heater to come on when I'm sitting there. Thumbs Up

Cheers

You can do that with the timer

It's an easy install with only 3 wires - look at the stickied posts on the install.

You can then have the ingition on with the fans blowing and press the instant heat button on the timer and the heater will fire up.

Slight edit to my last post.

It would appear that with the ignition on the FBH needs the "normal" conditions to be met before it will work. i.e. the temperature outside needs to be 4 deg or lower.

I've just tried it at lunch time and with 7 deg outside it would not fire up unless the car was asleep. Last week it was colder and below 4 deg and it ran fine with the ignition on and the blowers running.

Ah. But that doesn't allow you to sit in the car with the blowers blowing warm air at you.

Less chance of a flat battery aswell

Even if you have a remote - as soon as the car "wakes up" it shuts down the heater. I had it done by Webasto dealer - it has a separate blower so it blows the air as well when the FBH is remotelly runed on. However - if you do it while you sit in the car - as soon as you switch the radio on (or open the door) - it turns the fbh off. Twisted Evil I was very angry once I found out that the heater is not Independent - even with original webasto mount kit. Big Cry

Evo8 - try waking the car up first, letting it settle down and then start the FBH. With mine (provided it is cold enough) it will fire up and run.

I can then run the fan and keep the interior warm without the engine running

Might be easier if we find a simple/safe way to isolate the FBH from the canbus.... Question

I've been looking into this recently Simonsi, I've researched the how, I just need to wait for the parts to arrive. My only concerns are that the FBH may still not run if it's not getting the 'I haven't crashed' signal from the SRS ecu, nf if the FBH vanishes from the CAN, there may be faults logged.

I will just have to experiment.

Mine seems to run from the timer with no CAN wires connected, well it did once when i was messing about with the wires, im unsure what and if it would long term.

And in IDS diag i only get the (0x20) error on the fault code page as it cant talk to the heater, but no faults on the dash.

Regards Pete

I was hoping it would Pete, hopefully it is the same condition as when asleep - ie no traffic on the canbus.
 Cheers
